Per Chris Haynes at ESPN

quote:

New Orleans to sign Quinn Cook (@QCook323) to two-year deal following two 10-day contracts, league sources tell ESPN. This year, plus next.

I assume this is another Ajinca Special. They can cut him next year if they need to. If they don't they have Early Bird Rights the following year.

Probably so. Also gives us a small nonguaranteed contract to include in any trades if we need it.

Yeah. Definitely not guaranteed for next year. Just basically signing him for the rest of the year. Can also be a salary match for trades.

My son, who was born this past October, is named Quinn. We call him The Mighty Quinn. Thanks to Bob Dylan for that one.

I don't think Crawford is going anywhere unless he's involved in a trade with filler + 1st. I'm not sure how he pulled off a team option next year at the level he's playing. I actually feel guilty Crawford is getting pigeon holed into a crap deal he's been so good for us, but that's business.

His small sample size with the Pels probably increases the number of teams willing to offer him the minimum next year, but I don't think it significantly gets his market value above the minimum. Norris Cole's hot shooting half season with the Pels didn't change the market for him much.

Maybe he could get a 2/$6 deal like Ennis in the offseason, but would you take 2/$6 with an unknown situation or 1/$1 + 4/$20 in a situation where you feel comfortable that the team is going to give you the minutes and role to score? Because I'm pretty sure that's what Demps would have been selling.

I should have clarified. That 2nd year should have been guaranteed, not a team option. Now he's potentially one (minor even?) offseason injury away from being declined. Or if he's included as filler in a deal, THAT team could decline him for no reason other than wanting him on their roster. Again, great for Pels. Feel bad for Crawford.

Didn't have other options.
