He's Chinese club Liaoning published the invite letter from Pelicans's director of player personnel David Booth on Tuesday, asking the 24-year-old to train from July 3 and play in games in Las Vegas on July 11 and 21.

"I became familiar with Tianju He from a recent scout trip to China at the beginning of January," Booth was quoted as saying by Xinhua in the letter.

"I have observed him on several occasions and think that it would be a great experience for him as a player to be involved with our summer league team."

The 2.06 meter (6-foot-9-inch) He was voted the starting forward in the China Basketball Association All-Star games this year after helping Liaoning to the runners-up position in the league.

Interesting.

I'm assuming he's a 3/wing?

Someone posted a short highlight clip over on PR and he had a surprisingly decent handle both on drives to the basket and pulling up off the dribble to knock down a 3 LINK I was a lot more impressed than I thought I'd be with the Pels selling it as good experience for him like they were just trying to fill out the SL roster.

Looks like a good shooter. 40% from 3 and over 90% from free throw line. Terrible rebounder for being 6'9.

Wow, def the biggest splash of the summer. This guy has championship written all over him, summer league championship that is. Him and Seth curry will put the team on their backs and deliver the summer league title that this organization has so long desired.

Chinaman actually looks kinda decent.

Why hasn't he had a shot at the NBA yet, or in the draft?

In some cases I've seen, it's about contracts and the NBA teams having to shell out money to their teams like in MLB. Not 100% sure if it works the same way.

A write up from TBW on Tianju He

quote:

what He does have in his favor is the ability to knock down three-point shots at a prodigious rate. In years past, He was respected for his accuracy from beyond the arc, yet this season he took things up to the next level. Taking an average of 5.3 shots a game from deep, the forward made 42% of them, but he also showed a real court-savvy for playing off-the-ball and drifting into the perfect spot to receive the pass. This year, he also started in the CBA All-Star game and finished the season within a hair of a famed 50-40-90 season.

...It’s unclear how good He’s chances are of making the team. The forward can’t rebound and no-one in China bothers to play defense so if He stays with the Pelicans, it might have to be as a specialist three-point shooter. But it is also important to note that when He gets going, it is hard to stop him. In the final game of this year’s regular season, He went 8-of-11 from deep and then held onto that form during the postseason, averaging 53% during that span. New Orleans will know what they are getting with the no-thrills shooter from Northeast China-- but it might also be exactly what they need.

I think I see a bit more upside than that. He's not afraid to score where as babbit folds at signs of pressure from defenders.

His rebounding numbers aren't great but he's at roughly 5 boards per 36 and that's not THAT bad.

Maybe He could be our robert covington find?

Semi Unrelated but I also like Fuquan Edwins potential. Either him or He could turn into a nice bench wing.
