Las Vegas is getting an expansion team, along with Seattle. Worst kept secrets in the league.

Lebron will be part of that ownership group upon his retirement.

arena should have been by the convention center imo.

Traffic would be a nightmare there. There would have to be significant upgrades in infrastructure to make that work.

It looks like the Wizards may be getting a new arena too. They are playing DC against Virginia, but it sounds like they had wanted $600 million for arena upgrades to stay in DC. Moving to Virginia would be a $2 billion property, but it's a whole entertainment complex with a strip mall. The $600 million rehab budget is probably the relevant info for this thread.

I've seen a lot of people say that the Arena is just not upgradeable the way it would need to be, no matter how much money is involved

I will never understand. The arena seems fine.

It's probably a bottom 3 arena in the league and maybe even the worst. It was bordering on outdated when it was new in 99.

Anyone saying otherwise is just living in reality.

Every list has it at the bottom or bottom 2-3.

I've read a few articles on what makes it so bad and its not some things normal people would think about at times.

Its a dump

I think IF it ever happened, they would look for the Arena in another area of town.

IF they decided to tear down the Arena, I think that would obviously be the plan. They aren't going to play at UNO, that's absurd.

To do that, they would need to put several million into the Lakefront arena just to make it operable for NBA games.

But I do not think a new Arena is happening any time soon.

Let's hope it happens before Gayle's death

Current location is perfect. Play two years in the dome. No way they play at UNO.

Where would they build it? That location is perfect.

That is the thing. The best possible place for the new arena is where the current arena sits. Feels like playing in the Dome could be doable.

This is a losing franchise absent 3 or 4 years. Piss off Gayle.

The Dome sucks for basketball, no matter how they modify seating. I’ve watched several NCAA Tournament games there. Not good…

The SKC is in a perfect location. I’m not sure what a solution may be.

Not sure there will be enough space, but the new river district development would be a cool spot for a new arena.

I get that but it would be only temporary and I would assume Pels fans would rather the games still be in Nola instead of somewhere outside of easy driving distance.

Playing home games in BR or Ms Gulf Coast would be less desirable than the dome I would assume for local Pels fans (though maybe sprinkling in a few in both locations in addition to the dome would be a good idea).

If I recall, the New Orleans Arena was not built for basketball, so the sight lines and configuration are not good for a basketball stadium and cannot be redone. I wen to the arena in DC that is being replaced, and it was head and shoulders above our shite arena.

I may be in the minority, but I've been to the Lakers/Clips fancy spot and while it was incredibly nice, it didn't add but may 5% enjoyment for me over SKC. Ultimately, you're still in a seat watching ball. The real problem I see with SKC is that the lower seating bowl is too small.

I agree. I don’t see the benefit in spending nearly a billion to build a pro arena. If the team isn’t good, people still won’t show up. It’s not going to bring in more FA’s, so what’s the real upside?

It's used for a lot more than just basketball games, as a venue for other shows as well.
