No love for Bennett?

I am just wondering why the consensus on here is that they don't want Bennett? I think that it is very likely that he will be the best player in this draft. In my mind that makes him a no brainer. Is everyone against him because they think he can't play the 3 or because they just do not believe he will be good? If it is because you think he can't play the 3 (which I think he would be fine at) then you have to realize that the Pelicans need help everywhere. They especially need help on the offensive end. He is the most dynamic offensive player out there. He is in my opinion the only guy in this draft that I see as a sure fire all star talent. The kid is 19 and looks like LJ out there. Anyway that is my rant. And thank God the draft is tonight, because I don't think I have anyone else that I can decide I want them to draft.

Nah, we just have a logjam at the 4 and 5. He can't play the 3, so we have no need for him.

Yes. The Pelicans already have 3 stretch 4s. Bennett would become Derrick Williams 2.0 as a Pelican. Let someone who can use him take him.

Pretty much.
4 is the one position where we're stacked, with Davis as our centerpiece and Anderson as our bench scorer.
If we draft this guy, he'll go unused like Derrick Williams in Minny.

bennett can also get to the rim though. a complete offensive player.

He doesn't suck at all actually. He was an elite offensive talent in college. He was in HS as well, and it translated over.
He can do almost anything offensively.
The problem with him, for us, is fit. If he could play 3 on defense, he would be a perfect fit. He just probably can't.

He's not all-star talent, but he's a good player. I wouldn't be upset with the pick because the guy can score. There are some legitimate questions about who he can defend in the NBA. Ultimately, you get an offensive talent with some defensive problems.

I just don't buy into we have a stretch 4 already so don't take the most talented player in the draft. I still have no reason to believe he won't play the 3 in the NBA. The guy has outstanding length to defend. I can rattle of a ton of people who play the 3 in this league or have that are/were great players and not shut down defenders. So the guy won't be Ron Artest, neither is Carmelo.

NO shite, a 22-25 ppg scorer will be allstar talent.

you know a player like Bennett who is around 6'7' 250lbs could work perfectly with AD (Bennet at the 3 or 4 while Davis is at the 4 or 5) because I see Bennett playing most of his game close to the basket allowing AD to play pick and pop, pick and roll, playing that sneaky baseline game BUT I think because he is a tweener it scares people and they think the two would overlap and thats not even mentioning Ryno in the rotation
for me I just don't know how he fits into the future with Ryno and AD and I would rather go with Burke who I am a little more certain in AND is a big position of need

It really is the only question with him...can he defend 3s?
If he could, I would pick him without even thinking about it. He really is a good player and an elite offensive force.
Its all about the fit and the D. I just don't think he can.

Ditto. But the only 3s he probably couldn't defend is lebron and Durant. And, not many can do that. But on the other hand, he seems strong enough and it seems he has a nice post presence/touch around the rim. I would not mind picking him up. What's up with his injury though? I guess we'll see if he has the sling on tonight.

I think he would be good enough.

He would play the 3 AD the 4 and Ryno off the bench as he is now.

Based on?
A lot of people are projecting him as a 4.
If our Perimeter D hadn't been so bad last year, I might be more willing to take the chance.

can he be any worse off than a peja stojakovich?
Posted on 6/27/13 at 12:41 pm to ssgtiger
He would be guarding SFs 30-40 lbs lighter than him. Bennett is 260 lbs.
"But in turn, he could dominate them with his size on the block!" Ok, great, so you have a "wing" player playing in the post. We are talking a PF here.
