Take it for what it's worth but heard from someone who works very closely with the Hornets that the two names being tossed around a lot lately are ..... Bishops and Crusaders.

Can't say I'm happy with either

Neither are awesome, and Crusaders is especially tasteless, but I'd take either over Pelican'ts.

I just sent an email around my office about those Gargoyles I posted. I did not mention the Hornets at all, so this response is totally unsolicited:

Call ourselves the New Orleans Gargoyles. It looks and sounds more menacing than some damn pelican!!!!!

A rep?

Crusaders has tenuous support from what I can tell. Bishops seems odd.

Depends on who you are. If you're hardcore Catholic, like someone who's shown the Pope his SuperBowl ring, then Crusaders are probably viewed as heroic and you don't really give a damn what the mulims, jews and atheists think.

The league still has to approve it, and they won't approve Crusaders. Way too many negative connotations.

Yeah, well, as a Buddhist (raised Catholic), I would be extremely put off by it. In my opinion, that is along the lines of naming them the Nazis or SS.

Considering that about 70% of NOLA is non-Catholic, I don't see it happening. Like Fun Bunch and I have both mentioned, Stern would not okay it.

Y'all are right, but that doesn't mean the crazy old man won't try

Neither of these has a tie to New Orleans. It's all pretty thin. I know the Brother Marin / St. Aloysius thing, but any HS mascot has the same New Orleans tie, which is next to none.

Therefore, I discount them to some extent since Benson said this would be a `feature'. This, of course, could change, but it seems like a natural requirement.

Crescents would be better. Seems baseless though. Still, could be it, of course.

Not all reps are created equal, but, in the end, this seems something locked away within the inner circle: Tom, Mrs. Gayle, Rita, Dennis, Mickey. There is a good deal if contradictory information being spread from otherwise reliable people. Speculation? Misdirection? Coincidence?

It's all interesting, for sure.

42 - From what you are hearing, you still thinking Pelicans will be the new name?

Nobody is hearing anything of value right now. I wouldn't waste your time as this one will be close to the vest.

After the trade deadline I expect some legitimate word to start leaking.

Count me in. Aside from Mardi Gras, those three colors should never be combined. They just clash badly, in my opinion.

just use two of them on any given uniform IMHO.

2/3 home different 2/3 away.

Agreed on misdirection MO.

Agreed on close to the vest.

I hear just about what everyone else hears, and I disclose the relevant things.

The evidence points to Pelicans but this evidence is all circumstantial. It's all process of elimination from a reasonable but.invented list.

I don't spend much time trying to 'solve'tire this. Data falls in my lap, I update the analysis.

But I think Pelicans is the answer at this time.
