12. Greivis Vasquez

quote:

It isn't just the shaggy beard that has Greivis Vasquez looking like a different player this season—it's his play. The Venezuelan-born point guard is scoring, setting up his teammates and racking up double-doubles.

quote:

In fact, according to ESPN, Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo are the only two guards in the NBA with more double-doubles than Vazquez, who has 15 so far, including six in his last 11 games.

quote:

In all likelihood, the NBA's Most Improved Player Award will go to a higher-profile player, like Paul George or O.J. Mayo. That said, I'm not sure there is anyone in the league who has shown as much season-to-season growth as Vasquez has.

Some of the guys ahead of Gravy:

11. Raymond Felton
9. Jrue Holiday

I think an argument could be made for Gravy ahead of these two.

What's HT's opinion on where GV is ranked?

I personally think he should be a little higher probably at 10 but until we start winning more nobody on the team is gonna get alot of recognition.
But I'm pretty positive next year will be different with a good finish to this season. And also if Vasquez can keep this up for next season than people will start to take notice.

Gerry V says that GV isn't a legit NBA starting PG still.

Holiday has been tearing it up this year..Helping me out in fantasy. But yeah, he should be ahead of Felton. One of these days sports analysts will actually watch some hornets games

Their performances say otherwise.

Their performances?
What does that mean?

Laugh out loud if you think GV is a better player than Jrue. And I'm a HUGE fan of GV's approach.

Vasquez is better than Felton, not better than Holiday. Holiday is much better.

Holiday is putting up better numbers and is 4 years younger than Vasquez. If I had to choose a PG for my team for the next 5 years, Holiday would be in my top 6, definitely behind Westbrook, Rose, and Irving, and a toss up with Curry and Rondo.

If Jrue Holiday was a much better player, he would put up better statistics. He scores more points than Vasquez, but has slightly less assists and more turnovers. Vasquez also shoots the ball better from beyond the arch.

They are very comparable players, actually.

I think at the moment he should be between 10 and 14th (so 12 is about right),

If he keeps going with the same level, by the end of the season he would average 15.5 ppg and 9.5 apg, so then he would probably be between 10 and 12th (10th in average.

If he then continues next year with a season with 15ppg, 9 apg, and 3 topg, then he would be 6th to 10th (8th in average) and that would be his ceiling.

He then may be abel to keep that for two or 3 more years (until he is about 31), and then go back to top 15 level. But there are a LOT of ifs in my projection.

Not really. He scores more, but their shooting is nearly the same (I'd have to check true shooting % for both). That's about the only area that he's outperforming Vasquez. Feel free to compare.

4 years younger than Vasquez

This is true.

GV
14.3 ppg 9.2 apg 4.6 rpg 16.78 per 44% Fg 38%3pt .7 spg 3.4 topg

Jrue
19 ppg 9apg 4.2 rpg 18.89 PER 45% fg 36% 3pt 1.4 spg 4topg

I think Holiday is the better player, but not by a ton.
