A thread was started about this on the Saints board, but has an impact on the Pels too.

Hearing it’s unlikely #Saints exec Ryan Pace accepts #Jets GM interview. More likely: He gets promoted as Mickey Loomis does more #Pelicans

Could this mean that Loomis could be the potential new GM should Dell not be retained? This is nothing concrete, of course, but I found the prospect interesting.

No

He'd likely have a hand in selecting a guy though.

well that's interesting, Loomis has always been known as a bean counter/ cap wizard. I guess we'll see if he can work some magic.

It would just mean he's taking a more active role as President of Ops (or whatever he is) for both teams. Pace gets more responsibility on the day to day ops of the Saints, Loomis focuses more on big picture for both teams.

Pels would still have a GM to run day to day stuff.

It really wouldn't be much different than now, it would just free up Loomis more to pay a bit more attention.

You're prob right Bunch. Isn't Loomis's background more basketball anyway? I do hope this means even more investment into the franchise. They are definitely trending the right direction.

I saw that on the saints board too. Could be interesting.

This. I'm not sure how I feel about that. It's certainly better than leaving Demps or whoever the next GM is unchecked, I just had always hoped they'd get a more experienced basketball guy for the role.

Loomis is a pretty smart guy, I think he will be fine.

The next GM hire will tell us a lot. If its a Joe Dumars type, we are fricked. If its a well-respected, behind the scenes guy; or a famous coach given a lot of power, it tells us something else.

I think it depends on the "experienced" guy they would bring in. I like Dell, personally, so I hope he stays. If they bring in someone like Dumars (hope not) though then I'd rather Loomis be more hands on. Everyone knows what Dumars did to the Pistons.

Are they preparing Loomis to run the Pels/Saints trust when Benson kicks the bucket? Tom hasn't been looking so well lately.

I think he's smart enough, it just helps to have connections, and maybe that's why we've been seeing so much Dumars lately. I have no problem with Loomis using Dumars as a resource, as long as that's not the only resource he uses.

Would make a lot of sense

What role would lauchsia(sp?) play? I know he's had some mention.

I think he's more on the business end of things than the sports end.
