Regarding the OP, I'm going to say not just no but Hell No!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm REALLY hoping we can can squeak into the playoffs and have Monty prove us all wrong OR expedite his departure a full year by getting embarrassed.

The way I see it. He's back next year no matter what (oddly enough a complete embarrassment in the playoffs is the only thing I can see getting him fired) as jester says. If he's in the playoffs this year, next year the bar is raised to doing something in the playoffs/being relevant in the regular season.

- Improvement (this year)
- Playoffs (next year)
- Getting out of first round (following year)

...likely his timeline year by year with AD. If we get into the playoffs this year, he just jammed 2 years together and coincidentally has to put up or shut up in his contract year.

ETA: To clarify, I don't want to get embarrassed. I just realistically see the series going one of 2 ways. We shock the world and make a show of it by being competitive or the Warriors blow us out. The Warriors just don't strike me as the type of team to grind out some low single digit wins vs a team like ours.

How can you hate Coach K?

And no I still want Monty gone, but it seems like he will be here for one more year

I think the core issue is what 42 said a few weeks ago. He expects high level decision making but doesn't have high level decision makers. Being a slave to a system that doesn't maximize the talents of your roster is stupid.

That probably is the best we can hope for if he doesn't grow into the guy we need. The NBA is a curious business when it comes to coaching though. It isn't at all unusual for people to go from Assistant to HC and back. If Malone doesn't get another HC job, maybe he'll come back here and help Monty get it together.

Yeah honestly that's fricking gross, especially considering those animals (cephalopods whatever) are typically very smart.

Yep, the inhumanity of it is the most bothersome part for me.

frick that. You have AD and you're begging for the 8th seed. I know the western conference landscape ain't what it was when we had cp3 but back then, the playoffs were almost guaranteed. I've been waiting for a point where we were back to that point, and with the talent on this team, a worth-a-shite coach should be delivering. If there's an mvp candidate on THIS roster, we shouldn't have to be working as hard as we are right now for the postseason.

Barring getting by GS for some freak reason, I think it's time to make a change.

Too many games we lost that would have gotten us in the playoffs.

We have losses against the worst teams in the league. We should have ~ 47 wins IMO and that's on the low side

But we have won some games we shouldn't have in recent months.

That's a testament to the depth dell has built as well.

I think Dell did a good job of finding players off the bench that really contribute. You can see the talent and upside of this team. If the league changes the playoff structure then I might support holding onto Monty 1 more season. The West is so brutal if the Pelicans were in the East we would have 50 plus wins.

It's been forever the West has been superior to the East so the NBA needs to just create 1 league without Divisions. Everyone plays 3-4 times a year.

They'd probably taste worst if they looked more like us.

Oh you mean, the cruel nature of mutilating it, then eating it while it's still alive.

Don't they also do something similar with frogs or fish? Cut them open and eat at their organs while they're still moving?

I'm not defending Monty, he has some serious, fundamental flaws that make me more than ready to upgrade him, but some of y'all just have crazy expectations.

First, the team that started the year is very different and much worse than the team we have now. Start the year with this roster and I count at least 5 more wins.

Second, people think an MVP candidate on the roster alone changes things.

Year 3 KD 50-32 and made the playoffs...
With KD, Westbrook and Green playing 82 games and 76 for Harden.

Year 3 CP3 56-26 #2 seed
CP3 80 games, DWest 76, Chandler 79, Peja 77

See where I'm going with this?
3 games left this year
AD 64 games, Jrue 37, Ryno 57, Gordon 57, Reke 75

It's harder for your MVP and top players to have as much impact when they aren't playing.
