They play remarkable similar styles, and if you asked AD today he would definitely say there are many parts of his game he models after Aldridge.
Not only similar, but REMARKABLY similar??
Go look at their shotcharts, AD only shot 37.777% of all of his shots outside of the zone under the basket, relying heavily on alleyoops and rolls to the basket. Aldridge shot 67.61% of his shots outside of that close range. Aldridge is very heavily an isolation player and one of the best in the league, relying on his bulk to push PFs out of the way. AD isn't fully developed yet, but his speed and quickness and length and eye for blocks already have him in a club of his own.
LA is somewhat of a volume scorer for POR. AD's shooting 56.8% True shooting%, while Lamarcus Aldridge is at 52.7%. Melo is at 53.3%, for comparison.
It's clear how much more talent he has than LA. Yea, LA defends bulky players better because that's how he plays. Other than weight and mid-range isolation play, AD does everything better than LA.
quote: AD is averaging 3.6 blocks a game while LA is averaging 0.8
Blocked shots are not the only defensive stat out there, ya know. Aldridge can handle post ups much better than AD still. He's stronger and does equal work in transition, etc.
. AD has more steals and is averaging more Offensive boards this year than LA has ever done in a season. He averaged more O boards last year than LA is this year, playing 9 less minutes a game. Playing 9 minutes less a game last year, he also averaged more steals and blocks per game than LA ever has. Where LA beats his players with length, AD has the length, but he also has a speed that LA doesn't have. He has already broken records this season. According to nba.com AD has kept his players he is defending FG% to 41.8 at the rim
, one of the best markss in the nba, while LA has allowed his opponent to score 51.4% at the rim. Are you really trying to say AD is not a better defensive player????
Don't even try to say LA runs a better fastbreak than AD.
