I know I am grasping at straws and it will never happen but let's pretend Tyreke and Jimmy Butler switch places.

I am thinking somebody with Butler's skill set is exactly what this team is lacking.

This team would be pretty damn good with a competent coach. One that has any personality that the team could feed off of. Every time I see Monty Williams just sitting on the bench watching the game, it pisses me off to no end. You have to command respect and performance. These are young, impressionable athletes that need a guiding force. They look to the bench and they get a man in an oversized suit with his head in his hands. That's why we come out flat 50% of the time.

We need a new coach

We'd be fine then(well and a slightly better bench)

You also need a new GM. One who doesn't throw money at guys like Tyreke and Gordon, and doesn't trade away draft picks.

Yeah I totally agree with this. I do however feel that with a good coach, he would see what this team needs. Tyreke is a volume shooter, when it is working it's good, but now that it is working tonight Tyreke is taking Davis out of the game. Tyreke needs to be the guy on a below average team his game is built for that. We need someone who can step up when called on but will bow out and realize we are a better office when we run it through Davis.

This would be a better topic if you asked about switching Thibs and Monty. The answer would probably be from mediocre to competing in the very near future.

Those were 2 different situations

I'd much rather have jrue(who's having a great year) than 2 unproven rookies(The talent in 2013 was bad and the pick in 2014 was used on a damn euro)

It's insane how well respected Monty is in the NBA. I am all for getting ride of him, but even if we brought in Karl, I just am not seeing the balance that makes a true contender.

His shift to uptempo would help a lot more than this slowed down gamestate.

True, but he would have to rain in some of the hero ball that goes on. It is almost like no matter how good someone is playing, some players on this team need to make sure they get theirs

One was unhappy in NO, didn't want to be resigned and had questionable health. The other was an offensive black hole the Kings were content with letting go.

Jrue is solid but those were two top 10 picks. How about the one given up for Asik? I think a team like the Pelicans needed to build around Davis through the draft.

That being said, it was my impression that Benson made the directive to win ASAP. If that was the case, then there wasn't much else personnel-wise those under him could do.

Jrue is solid, and I would do that trade ten times over.

combined with the fact that they had to do it because of the Tyreke deal, it's terrible.

Vasquez, Lopez, extra cash and a first round pick >>> Asik and Tyreke.

It wouldn't have looked good on the ORG at all to let the main piece in the CP3 deal walk. That move wasn't likely all on demps.

He's been much happier here over the last couple years.

Tyreke has been inconsistent yes but his contract will be a lot less than what some have got recently and will be getting(his contract also decreases.)

He could also be moved for pieces.

Jrue is a more complete players than 95% of those top 10s and he's on a reasonable deal.

That one won't matter much.

There wasn't much talent worth building around him.

That's partly true.

I really don't understand why people think Tyreke is overpaid. It seems about right to me. There are other guys making much more in recent offseasons also.

That would be the perfect trade for this team. A good shooter and defender who can take the team on his back for stretches but doesn't need the ball to be successful. An efficiency player instead of a volume player like Reke or Gordon

Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler have developed over the years under Pop and Thibs. I don't think it's unfair to wonder where someone like Evans would be right now under the same tutelage.
