Good. That’s the point.

I do agree it’s bigger, at least in news worthiness. But at what point do things get back to normal? Should the NFL not start basically a month later? This is a huge deal now, but we are talking about 50 days or so from now. When is it ok to start again? Is the new season starting in December ok?

Use the platform that they have to continue to bring it up. Find creative ways to advertise the movement. Having a return to some semblance of normalcy doesn’t mean the message has to be lost.

The official position of The Bird Writes is that the season should be canceled, because protesting is more important.

That's a website that purports to be about Pelicans basketball.

David Grubb was posting this absolute nonsense as well.

Seriously, setting aside my own preference to watch basketball games, the only reason that NBA players have a national platform is (obviously) because they play basketball. Backing out now would turn the NBA into a laughingstock and ruin their credibility and severely damage that platform.

This is very true what kyrie said. Once the league starts, a lot of the protests will likely start dying down and the attention will switch onto other things (which is likely what america wants), so he's speaking honesty.

1. It'll likely die down before that.

2. Everyone else is back to work, and it's not stopping them from expressing thoughts and whatever protesting they feel they need to do. This idea that protests will persist for nearly 2 more months, then the minute hoops is on TV, it'll just stop on a dime is way out there, that's just not logical

Strong leap you took. I simply agreed that starting the season again will take attention from what's going on in the world now, and that's probably what a lot of people want.
Fair point on him taking that leap, but an honest question, where do you draw the line on shutting down forms of entertainment so we can focus on what is going on in the world?

Movies, parks, playgrounds, gyms...these are 100% honest questions, should we ensure they're all shut down because they can all take away from what is going on in the world right now, I don't see how anything I listed is any bit different than basketball, so why should those things be available as options for entertainment but not basketball?

Just curious, why does it need to have a distraction?

Seriously dumb leap, those things are open right now, well a lot of states. Those locations don't mean the same to black people like the nba. How hard is that to understand?

Good on the bird writes for seeing the bigger picture and not trying to use black men as entertainment as usual

OK, I just want to make sure that I have this straight. If I want to enjoy watching NBA basketball, then I'm exploiting black men in some racist fashion? Is that what you're saying? Are you saying that it would be better if the NBA had more white players? That I should quit being a Pelicans fan and go enjoy watching some 1980s Celtics teams win?

It isn't remotely dumb.

Why does being open matter? Is it distracting from the movement or not? The answer is yes, so...

Point is by you saying those places are already opening and clearly not distracting from the movement, then there is no logical reason to then say basketball shouldn't come back.

WTF

TIL black people don't like movies, public parks and playgrounds, etc.

Also, you said some states those things aren't open, so you're on record saying they shouldn't open then?

Well, you haven't made a good point in retort to my question, so I'm not sure what I'm not understanding.

black men make generations worth of money, and there job is to play basketball and entertain the masses, and now you're acting like that's a negative thing.

That's what they do, it's their job.

"Use them as entertainment?" They chose to play in the league and make the money and lifestyle that 99.9% of the world would love to have. Be somewhat realistic.

When the NBA comes back it should grab quite a bit of the spot light. I can't imagine anyone thinking individual players going to individual protests would have more impact than telling their stories in a sports starved TV landscape where they might be reaching 1/3 of the country or more.

my god

what in the blue hell are you talking about?
the NBA “means more” to black people than white people? Did you just say that and mean it?

tell ya what...let all the white people quit watching and spending and see what happens to the NBA

Where did I say that? I said those locations do not mean the same as the NBA. Where and why did you add white people to that?
