Josh Hart dropped a career-high 44 points for Portland tonight. He was 15/21 from the field and 6/9 from 3 with 8 boards, 6 assists and 4 steals

Every Pel fan including me wants him back but no way we can afford to pay him $10-12 mil per year to be a 6th or 7th man. Who knows me might command $14 million a year next year.

I love that he’s doing so well.

With that 44 point game, he's still only averaging 16 ppg in March

NAW is also a DNP-CD champ in Utah

I love Josh Hart but it's becoming clear we really didn't give up that much for CJ, in hindsight.

We easily could if we weren't paying Devonte almost $12M/per

Devonte only brings 3 point shooting to the mix. His production can easily be replaced by Trey once Trey becomes rotation worthy.

Devonte hits 1 extra 3 every 50 shots over Hart... is that bringing 3 point shooting to the mix?

I do like Hart but he just wouldnt have ever done this with the pels. We wouldnt have “this Hart”, we’d have the 34% from 3, decent defending, great rebounding player he is. He’s good, but him getting more than 15 ppg would mean a team isn’t gonna be that good

I don't think there's a person here that wouldn't have put Graham in the CJ trade instead of Hart if it would have worked. For salary reasons it seems pretty likely that Graham will be involved in the next non minor trade.

You see why Portland wanted Hart in the trade and not Graham

I'm 100% sure we tried to include Graham but Olshey wanted Hart

A gutted Pels team like it is right now, would see a Hart performance like this

I'd trade the Laker pick, should we get it, for Hart

Olshey wanted Hart because his contract isn't guaranteed next season so his salary will be off the books. Portland is trying to create as much cap space as possible this offseason.

Hart's deal was a very unique one and was built so he could be traded at the deadline. There was always a high percentage that he would be dealt due to the way the deal was structured.

I agree with your point, that it was essentially a one year deal meant to be dealt. But Hart had exceeded expectations and is worth more. So they will pick up his option and keep him. He will be an attractive asset and would have value in potential trades as well.

We need to watch the Blazers cause they are right there with us. With our recent losing streak, they are 1 game back with 14-16 left to go. We need to build up a cushion and string together some wins..

They probably still won't pick up his option. It looks as if they are trying to open up as much cap space possible to lure a big fish to pair with Dame. Going into this offseason they can open up just over 45 million in space. Picking up Hart's option would kill any chance of landing someone they figure is a star player.

Clearing space for who?

There aren't any huge FAs to lure. They would be better off moving Lillard and doing a rebuild around Simons and their 1st. If they do that, they might as well keep/feature Hart so that they can trade him for value down the road..
