Gentry and Dell both need to go

Gentry said he likes having the combination of Asik and Ajinca at the center spot because it provides him with desired flexibility with his rotations. Gentry likes Asik's rebounding ability and Ajinca's ability to step out of the post to take shots but also score near the basket.
''The center position is covered,'' Gentry said.

Gentry and Dell's hands are equally bloody in creating this disaster.
Can't blame this all on Benson. He's not evaluating players and negotiating (or lack therof) their contracts. He hasn't been cheap. Unfortunately, the people he's hired are idiots. Fact is he's the only thing keeping the Pelicans in New Orleans.
When I heard about the Solomon Hill signing on the radio I cringed. The optimist in me said, "They're professionals, clearly they know something I dont."
They didn't.
They should have kept Evans and traded Jrue to Sacramento. He's a better fit at PG for this roster. We probably could've gotten an extra guard or pick in return had we gone that route.
Bottom line is that Gentry and Demps are both in way over their heads and aren't going to be successful here or anywhere else.
Until there's a new coach and GM, this franchise will be a bottom-feeder until Benson dies and the franchise relocates.

If Gentry not wanting to have control over player personnel was a large part of the reason he was hired, shouldn't he be adapting his system to the players on the roster instead of trying to generate a certain style of play with a roster that doesn't fit that style?
I hate to use the "square peg, round hole" analogy, but it seems to fit what we've seen in his two seasons here, at least from my vantage point.
With AD and Cousins, having a guy like Reke who may be a "ball stopper," but can drive to the basket, get the defense to collapse around him and dish to the open big man for an easy bucket seems practical. Jrue has his strengths, but he can't get to the goal the way Evans can. If the centerpieces of the franchise are going to be AD and DC, would it not make more sense to run more of an iso & PnR half-court game than a fast-paced, spread-you-out ball-movement game?
It just seems to me that with those two players being the cornerstones, Gentry's preferred style of play isn't going to maximize the talent on the roster.
Just my $0.02

Say what you will about Asik, but the guy is a rebounding machine. He's like a rebound magnet - the ball always seems to land right in his hands. And that's not luck, it's positioning. And he catches it.
Granted, if he breaks to the basket wide open on a pick and roll, he's usually not going to catch it. If it's one of the rare times he does catch it and goes up for the dunk or put-in, he''s either going to get stuffed or hit the lower edge of the backboard on the way up.
But you know what you have in Asik - a more than solid rebounder. Like Liam Neeson, Asik has a particular set of skills...
Is he too expensive? Yes. Is he expendable With Boogie here now? Yes. But pre-Boogie, there were many times when we were getting dominated inside with zero rebounds when I've yelled, " For the love of God, give the man some Pepto Bismol and put him in the damn game!"
In the game against San Antonio that put us in the playoffs year before last, Asik singlehandedly won that game for us in the last couple minutes. Watch the tape.

I'm making no arguments for or against Asik. The point I'm making is the guy who doesn't play him pushed for the contract and Dell did what Dell does, and grossly overpaid him.

No problem with that, I wholeheartedly agree. This is more about the people who bash Asik as complete and total trash. He isn't a fit for our team and is detrimental to our salary cap, but he does have a useful set of skills. People who expect more out of him don't understand what he is.

I tend to agree with you. He was a cerviceable center until Gentry got here. It's his contract that makes him worthless... Can't play him, can't trade him.
