New Orleans Pelicans point guard Tyreke Evans will miss Saturday night's preseason opener against the Indiana Pacers because of a right knee contusion.
Evans participated in an intrasquad scrimmage on Thursday night at The Greenbrier, where the Pelicans held their four-day training camp earlier this week. Evans' injury was disclosed on Saturday when the Pelicans released their injury report for the game.
The Pelicans also list Anthony Davis as probable with a left ankle sprain.
''For the most part, we're just try to play some guys and there are things we will try to look at,'' Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry told reporters at the team's shootaround Saturday morning at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. ''Obviously with five days, we haven't had a whole lot of time to put in a lot of things, so I would doubt it's going to be a smooth-flowing game tonight with either team.''
Forward Alonzo Gee, who was signed as a free agent this summer, will miss the game because of undisclosed personal reasons. Forward Quincy Pondexter also will miss the game because he is still in the process of strengthening his left knee after undergoing arthroscopic surgery in May.
