re: Eric Gordon was playing chess while yall were thinking checkers

If he comes back, plays up to expectations and stays relatively healthy, nobody will give a rat's arse about any of that crap.

At some point after the New Year . . . a sixteen game winning streak. You'll see.

Just finished an article posted in another thread.

quote:

Before the surgery, however, the Hornets attempted to sign Gordon to a contract extension, offering him a five-year contract at an average, a source said, of $13 million despite the fact that Gordon had played in only two games. The deadline to sign was 11 p.m. central time Jan. 25. “He wanted $13.5,” said the source. According to someone with knowledge of the negotiations, the Hornets offered a $500,000 bonus each year of the five-year deal if Gordon played 62 of the 82 regular-season games. Gordon declined, meaning he would become a restricted free agent and solicit offers on the open market.

So apparently the Hornets DID show him a shitload of "respect" before this offseason.

Complete fabrication.

You can not tie salary or bonuses to number of games played. If you could, the owners could hold out players to save money when records are less important.

That's not what they're saying.

Really?

he Hornets offered a $500,000 bonus each year of the five-year deal if Gordon played 62 of the 82 regular-season games.

So what are they saying?

I'm saying Thrillho doesn't care about that part. The 13 he was offered for 2 games is what he's talking about.

Oh, well I care about the part that's a complete fabrication and just may indicate that there's some other bad info if the source doesn't know the basics of NBA deals.

It's not like there aren't other issues there . . . like Gordon getting a 5 year extension. If he was getting 5 years at the max on the table, there's no way to reject it unless you were planning on signing the QO . . . it's the max possible and he was restricted.

Either way he probably should've just said "my bad" instead of trying to give his comments a flimsy defense.

I don't think that is the max they could offer. Technically, Gordon never got the max from the Hornets. They could offer more than the Suns, but they just matched the Suns offer. The max would have been 5y/80m, like Westbrook got, right? A 4 year max would have been closer to 60, like Love got..

re: Eric Gordon was playing chess while yall were thinking checkers
The designated player gets 5 years at the max.

That the max. Different players can get different max deals because of tenure, but the max deal Love and Gordon got was the 4 year version that the designated players do not get. Westbrook got the designated player, 5y version.

So, if the 5y was offered, it was the max that anyone could offer. There's no reason to use a team to get more. The only reason you don't take it is to leave, and then you take the QO.

Again, the facts above are in error at least in part.

I really really don't give a shite anymore. What's done is done. Gordon needs to quickly get healthy.

Demps, who saw Gordon work out this week, said he could be back in the lineup in 7-10 days.

All we should focus on. He'll be back in a week and no longer than 2 weeks according to our GM. Not according to EG himself, his momma, our post game anaylist, or some other random fricker.

The one thing that really irked me with the EG saga was when he made it known that he didn't know what the R in RFA meant.

so they didn't feel he was worthy of a max deal until someone else gave him one?

and he did what he had to do to go get that max deal?

It was a sound business decision by the Hornets. They knew Gordon wouldn't take anything less than the max. They were willing to offer it to him. HOWEVER, instead of just outright giving him a max deal, they wanted to see if they could save money, by seeing what the market was willing to offer.

Obviously the market was willing to dish out the max and the hornets got him anyway for the exact same price they planned on paying.

The Hornets only had money to gain in this situation, not money to lose.

Why wouldn't the hornets want to save money?

while i agree it's not stupid to save money, it's very risky to come off as cheap to NBA players

you want to show these guys you'll blow your load on them. that's how you gain credibility with the league
