Do you really see Zion turning down 175-200M rookie extension?

For all the constant talk of him being one foot out the door, I just don’t see it.

Then, even if he does, you get the richest trade return in maybe the history of the NBA.

I think the family displeasure was over not making All NBA because the Pels weren't a playoff team. He still will be able to earn eligibility for a Rose Rule extension, but getting that money is a bit in danger now.

If they screw up this season he will be asking for a trade. No doubt in my mind. There is just too much smoke

I think I read our problem will be that he can’t sign the Supermax a year early with a season left on his contract because he didn’t make the All NBA team this year. So he would need to wait until his contract is up to sign the biggest extension (assuming he makes an All NBA team this year and next).

Unpopular opinion: Zion's game does not translate to playoff success and if we think he's being killed in the paint now wait until the whistles completely stop.

We may be better as a franchise trading him for Lillard and using the rest of our assets to grab Beal or someone of that caliber and run out a lineup of BI, Lillard, Beal. I haven't taken the time to really evaluate the cap on this because it will never happen.

So, at 21 his game is complete and we should lok to trade him. Wow!

No stupid, this is contingent on the idea that he wants out. Obviously he can progress but if we only have 2 more years with him we should strike while the iron is its hottest

No max guy in this day and age is going to turn down their first max contract. There are other avenues to force his way out if he really wanted to.

175-200M rookie extension

somebody remind me what his max would be otherwise? isn't it like 4/120?

he's leaving millions on the table in the short term but it's not like he's leaving $175M on the table...plus i don't think he's going to get a Rose rule contract

Zion's not turning down an extension. He may force a trade after he signs that extension, but he's not turning down that kind of money.

You are very wrong and don't understand how this works.

he may do it, but it is HIGHLY unlikely. He will likely wait until after year 4, sign the largest deal he can, spend 1 more season here, and then ask out.

Unpopular opinion but Zion just doesn't demonstrate being an leader to me. I feel like he never fully embraced nola and having your family leak how you feel and not denying it is not a great look. Cade Cunningham showed more leadership in the last two weeks than Zion had in the last two years. I wouldn't be surprised it he signs with Klutch next season.

He barely played over a season worth of games on a team that has constantly brought in veteran leaders to the squad. It's not unreasonable to believe that he didn't feel like it was his place to overstep at that point in time. You need to let this season play out and see what his leadership abilities are.

So, you look like an idiot with your posts and you resort to name calling. Grow up.

I'm not saying it's more likely than not he takes the qualifying offer I am saying he would turn down the extension from us. Porzingis just did this not that long ago. The knicks backed down and traded him but if the Pels played hardball maybe the QO does become possibility. If he signs the deal with the pels he loses a lot of leverage choosing a destination. If it isn't Zion someone will eventually do it. All that said I obviously hope I am wrong.

Literally the only guy of his stature to do it, ever.

Zion is unlikely to do so, especially if he becomes eligible for a Rose Rule Max.

Its just not going to happen. He will bide his time an then ask out 1 year into that contract if we are still a shitshow.

I mean we are in a brand new era of unprecedented player movement and empowerment, so I'm not as sure as you are that the historical precedent is as relevant. I think him getting the rose rule makes it a 80-20 proposition but I also don't know how likely he is to get it. An injury basically ends his candidacy. I'm probably being pessimistic but saying it's highly unlikely is being too optimistic IMO.

Also we are arguing over whether he stays 3.5 or 4.5 years, not sure it makes a big difference in the scheme of things.

I think its unlikely but if the pels continue suck for the next couple years then yea I could def see him wanting out.

Org has to figure out how to have some sustained success. Return would be great but trading yet another franchise player is beyond disappointing
