Showed me two things:

1. Didi is nice.
2. We need some pyrotechnics in the Smoothie King center

think about this, which makes me giddy

Pels got hayes, NAW and Louzada for hunter and solo. Depending on what gardland and or culver eventually do, this very well could be a historic heist. We’ve seen all kinds of positives from all three new pels, and hunter I think is just a guy. Of course we will see but if the pels got three young studs for one young stud and an albatross that’s a clear victory

I remember reading that Griffin had Culver and Hayes ranked about the same and would've taken one of them with the #4 pick, if we had actually had to use the pick. Griffin made the trade after carefully figuring out that one of them would be available at #8.

So, the trade didn't prevent us from getting Garland, as he was lower on our board than Hayes anyway. So, I don't think that what Garland does has any bearing on the value of the trade. On the other hand, if it turns out that Culver was slightly higher than Hayes on the Pels board (I don't know if he was or not, but I suspect), and if he blows up and is better than Hayes, that would spoil some of the trade's ultimate value.

3. He has a teammate that is the love child of Pau Gasol and the bad guy from Die Hard

if garland becomes a much better player than Hayes or culver it’s still part of the opportunity cost of the trade regardless of whether the pels would have taken him or not. The fact remains that they could have taken him and didn’t

It’s not like he was a late round pick

That's one way to view it. I would view it as a talent evaluation mistake that, since it would've happened whether we made the trade or not, isn't connected to the trade. It's not an opportunity cost if you wouldn't take the opportunity.
