Withey would do the job.

I could see him having a solid little NBA career as a cheap/defensive 7-footer too.

Meyers Leonard is mentally challenged. Withey may be skinny but at least he's not autistic.

the point of dumping lopez is to get cap room. they will trade him for a pick, likely not players. just my opinion.

Agreed.

Asking for Whitey or Leonard back in a trade is definitely shooting the moon.

Withey only cost them a 2nd rounder and would be the 3rd string center. I think he's more obtainable than you're thinking.

Probably half the league is interested in kicking the tires on Lopez, given that servicable centers don't tend to go for $5m / season.

If Portland doesn't want to ante up, we can see what the next team is offering.

I would want a future pick along with Whithey if they went that route.

We don't need an all star center. Just a guy who can grab rebounds, maybe block a shot or two, and use up his fouls in 20 minutes

If you want to win championships against teams like the Heat, you need all the All Stars you can grab.

Don't get too far ahead of yourself.

At this point, we're still putting together a roster that can finish in the top 8 in the West this season, not unseat the champs.

Just because the assets we get today won't do the latter doesn't mean we can't flip them down the road to do just that.

And the purpose of a 10-15 MPG center is to maximize the time of our All Stars caliber players on the court. The Pelicans need a center that can limit the beating Davis has to take so he and Anderson can play together more.

I don't think we'll get an All-Star for Robin Lopez with a salary less than what Robin Lopez makes, bud.

But aren't they over the cap? If they have a TPE, they could trade up a pick and absorb him into a TPE, but I do not think they have straight cap room to do a Whithey for Lopez trade.

If so, then I doubt it will be a guy owned by Portland.

They just traded the rights to two of their overseas guys to Houston as part of the Thomas Robinson trade.

Words can not explain how excited I am to watch the Pelicans without Lopez's ugly arse running up and down the court. If I had to watch him tuck his nasty hair behind his ears one more season...

At least we are trading him when his value is at it's absolute highest coming off a career year.

Lopez played well last year given what was expected of him and his contract. I will miss him.

I completely agree he had some games when he was putting up stats of an all-star. Doesn't change the fact that hes ugly.

Just his presence on the court kills my vibe, very serviceable as a player though. Plus we are trading him anyways now so I don't feel bad saying it.
