Well unless they have league pass and seek out the Pelicans, no one has had an opportunity to watch AD outside of Thursday night.

Go ask beat writers across the league (and players, apparently) how good he is.

Maybe those, but those who casually follow the NBA as well, those who look at names and scoring leaders first before something like PER or actual games.

I wish I was from Marrero, well not really but maybe from Beaumont

I just go by filter the PER list by mpg.

I just omit the alex kirks of the world because they're not playing starter minutes.

He is 3rd, that is correct... but does he have the name as the others? Is he as well known as Lebron, Durant, Kobe, Westbrook, Wade, Paul, Griffen, Carmelo, Curry, etc.....

Again, as I've said time and time again.... We are talking casual fans not die hard NBA fans on the Pelicans board

Making the playoffs dosent guarantee your pick either. You have to have one of the 10 best records in the NBA. Making the playoffs in the West will be tough. Do you have more wins than 6 other playoff teams? We are almost certainly losing that pick.

Dallas was the 8 seed last year and had the 21st pick. So far the East doesn't look like it's improved any vs. the West. It's much less certain than you think.

Ah yes. We should've realized that national recognition is somehow equal to putting together talent and ability, which is why Kris Humphries was the 2010 league MVP.

No as I stated a couple times already but people choose what to respond to and quote, he isn't known as top 5 player to a casual fan. To anyone who follows the NBA and is a die hard they know.... but again, pick and choose what you choose to read and respond to

then what is the point of all this? in this thread we are talking about performance of the team and AD. what does the opinion of the uniformed masses have to do with reality and why does it matter?

it did not until someone said "emerging, emerging" emerging" and I attempted to explain why I said it that way, since they had a problem with it

so you gave your opinion and when it was challenged used the "casual fan" as a scapegoat.

So, after reading through this thread I thought, Hey the OP posts an interesting question "are the Pelicans really a playoff team". Hmm, I thought I may have a few ideas on the subject but lemme read through all the posts first. Figured out that the OP had no clue wtf he was talking about(which is fine sometimes an uniformed posts leads to some learning). However, how da f do you make an argument based off the casual fan, and still be incorrect. It is widely known throughout the universe that AD is a top 3 player right now. The general public base their opinions off of what the national guys say... and the national guys are repeating daily that AD is one of the best in the league.

Are the Pels a playoff team. Probably not.. We all pretty much agreed the ceiling was maybe 50 wins ish, but the realistic expectation was 41+/- a few wins (depending on health). This team at the moment fully healthy is a 7/8 seed and a first round exit at best. But, remember Rome wasn't built in a day.. This team won 27 games year 1 of AD and 34 last year.. This year we will win more than 34 games (if we stay relatively healthy) aprox 42ish.. So, steady improvement with a young roster and flexibility in the year 2016..

I am not advocating that I think Demps did a great job constructing this roster, but I find it kinda hard to be on either side of the fence (optimistic/pessimistic) right now. We have a young roster that includes Anthony frickn Davis (can't be pessimistic with this guy on the roster) but limited current flexibility, lack of developmental guys and poor coaching make it hard to be too optimistic .. Just enjoy AD this year, and we will see what our chances are of being a contender come end of next year and 2016 offseason.

I think the national media is mad that this Pelicans team is not a playoff team because everyone wants to see AD in the playoffs.

BUT if you were on this board before the season I think a majority of the serious posters (serious followers of the team) predicted that Pelicans would likely miss the playoffs.

SO I think if you ask outsiders - This is a playoff team & If you ask serious followers of the Pelicans - This is not likely a playoff team

However, If this team can hold it together until January, its possible they could win 11 games in a row just like Golden State did. That is how easy the January Schedule is. So you could easily be looking at a team that is say 31-21 going into February.

lol

He is one of the biggest names in the league at the moment. "The unibrow" has been in the spotlight since AD was a freshman at Kentucky. If you asked a casual NBA fan, "Do you know who the guy with the unibrow is?" Id bet 95% would know who Davis is. Not to mention he's on commercials and magazine covers. People recognize him.
