NOLA.com says it is adductor not an abductor strain. How could there be an abductor strain? The main abductor muscle of the hip are the glutes which would not be classified as a groin strain.

Those would be his aDductors. ESPN and nola.com confirm it is his adductors. If AD had hurt his hip abductors he would hurt have a pain in his arse not groin.

quote:

Davis' injury is a Grade 1 adductor strain, an injury that causes soreness from being over-stretched but which does not necessarily limit muscle function going forward.

Whoever wrote that tweet in the OP needs anatomy.

i'm not that familiar with any of the ductors but multiple people seem to have it wrong.

cbssports

Anthony Davis (groin) has a Grade 1 abductor strain and will be listed as day-to-day.
tweet by times-picayune guy, john reid

He is dealing with a Grade 1 abductor strain, and he'll be re-evaluated during Friday morning's shootaround. "[Davis is] getting treatment," said head coach Monty Williams. "He’s walking around normally and doing some stuff, but nothing to break a sweat. We’ll see how he feels tomorrow.

Coming from Monty, I am not surprised.

It is real easy to get them confused.

hip aBductors:
quote:

The hip abductor muscles are responsible for lifting your thigh out to the side. They also stabilize your pelvis when you walk or stand on one leg. The primary hip abductors are the gluteus minimus and medius and the tensor fasciae latae. The sartorius and the piriformis are secondary hip abductors.

vs

aDductors:
quote:

This is also known as the medial (adductor) compartment of the thigh. A pulled groin muscle usually refers to a painful injury sustained by straining the hip adductor muscles.[3] These hip adductor muscles that make up the groin consist of the adductor brevis, adductor longus, adductor magnus, gracilis, and pectineus.[4] These groin muscles adduct the thigh (bring the femur and knee closer to the midline).

grade 1 groin strain recovery:
LINK
quote:

Rest, avoiding activities that produce pain. It may be necessary to rest grade 1 groin strains from competition or training for up to 3 weeks.

A general guide for safety is 5 days, although if pain allows complete rest may not be necessary. A lower level of activity avoiding any painful movements may be all that is needed.

I am going to hopeful and guess he is out a week.
