Anthony Davis Embracing Leadership Role

Davis had already been relegated to a suit and the sidelines thanks to a season-ending knee procedure and thus was unable to help save the day. Yet when a timeout was called, Tim Frazier, a point guard who had just been plucked out of the D-League to help plug the team's many holes, still looked to the superstar expectantly.
"AD, are you gonna say something?" Frazier, by the expression on his face, seemed to be asking Davis.
It caught the 23-year-old All-Star by surprise.
"I was like, 'Oh, s---" Davis said at Friday's media day, with Frazier nodding in the back of the room in agreement. "I wasn't expecting to say nothin'. But it shows you these guys look up and look forward to me saying stuff, because they want to follow, they want to be a part of something special. I'll always remember that. That was eye-opening."

good shite
i wonder if kendrick did anything to help mold him into a leader or what
Was that ever missing early last season and it carried, too. I hope they're in shape this year.

"For being as young as he is, it's crazy to see him reach out as much as he does," said Solomon Hill, who signed a four-year, $48 million deal in the offseason. "Like when we were in L.A., he had things set up. He had things for us available to do. Even here now, he's getting the team together. That's something different for being a young guy. You see that from most older guys in the league that say something like, 'Coach told me to do this.'"

Gentry's list of team priorities -- the top three, in order: playing "blue-collar desperate"; being the "best-conditioned team"; and playing unselfishly -- had a decidedly back-to-basics feel. Davis admitted a need to find ways to overcome a lack of talent.

quote:
"I love it here," Davis said. "I don't plan on leaving. I guess I fit into that old-school category where I try to win it here where I start my career. That's always been a goal of mine. I've never thought about leaving here. People have their own opinions and their own decisions and reasons why they're making decisions. And I have mine. I love it here. My goal is to bring a championship here."

That last bit is what you'd expect to hear at this point in his career. Several years ago KD was seen as different and people told themselves he'd stay in OKC, not join the most unfair team ever. We should all become OKC fans this season, Westbrook making leading your own team fashionable again could help keep AD.

We hear the same shite every year. Show us on the court.

Yep, wasn't it KD that took some shots at people creating mega teams or bandwagoning only to join in creating the most egregious example of it to date?
I hope AD does what he says but I also imagine it is a lot easier to say something like that when you are locked into a contract for several more years then when you are faced with an opportunity like jumping on a GS when it's right in front of you for the taking.

exact same thing was said last year
incompetence at the saints and pels have me not swallowing it this time
prove it
there is no reason a team with a player like Davis not winning half their games by accident

I thought AD having an Oh shite moment was significant. Monty was the leader of the team until last year when they had no leader. Hopefully he steps into the void.

Speaking of "Isn't that the same thing we heard last year?"

Uh, Anthony Davis grew an inch. Davis told @SeanKelleyLive he's now 6-11. Also up to 250 lbs, but wants to see how he plays at that weight.

yep
let's recap...
"davis looks stronger/bigger/bulkier"
"davis wants to be a stronger leader"
"davis wants to be here"
"we plan to run/play fast/play hard/find the open man"
"we plan to simplify the defense"
blah, blah, blah
how about this instead:
"we know we've underachieved and disappointed our fans at every single recent opportunity. we acknowledge this, here are the mistakes we've made, here is what we plan to do about it, and anyone who is not 100% committed to entertaining our existing fans and cultivating new ones, by giving them a product that is enjoyable to watch, can find a new job"

23 years old, mega NBA star known worldwide and filthy rich now. How much arse is this guy slaying? Probably no different than most NBA players. They have to be careful, too many hoes want that money shot. How many players have gone broke with kids in 1/2 the cities they play in, while financing a great life for the hoe who is out looking for more? Not knocking women, it's a fact.
