I hate to use cliches. “The best things come to those who wait. Patience is a virtue”. Why not wait till free agency starts? What’s the harm?

We’re trying to leverage teams into getting AD before free agency starts in order to spark a bidding war between teams hoping to bag one or more max FAs.
Waiting until free agency starts means that you are either getting offers from a team who already has stars and wants to go over the top or teams which missed out on stars and wants one of the few who is available.
Doing a deal before free agency is preferred in this case but, if the offers aren’t there, there are ways to benefit from teams hitting it big or striking out.

That brings up a good point. If you could choose Tatum and only one pick or Brown and multiple picks, which would you choose?
Even Tatum + Memphis pick would be a weak offer. You could make an argument that the Knicks would have more to offer if they are still interested.

Shaq was traded from the Lakers to the Heat in July. A 5 team trade the next season netted the Heat Antoine Walker, Jason Williams, and James Posey. Personally, I don’t see the rush to trade AD. Find a team or teams willing to work a 3,4, or 5 team trade. In a 2 way trade, the Pelicans can tell a team like Boston what players they want on their team. I don’t see the Pels winning any trade currently. I think a 3rd team is almost necessary.

I’m not advocating rushing BUT there are a few different times in which there will be more pressure on bidders to step up.
The draft is one of those times.
The period between the draft and free agency is another.
To give a different example, Boston’s big trades circa 2007 for Ray Allen and KG took place around draft night for Allen and then a few weeks later for KG before free agency started.

I believe Allen and KG were 3 days apart

Fun fact I just randomly looked up. From the month of January onward, Zion shot 39.6% from 3. Shot 42% in March

He’s gonna have a better 3 pt percentage than what people think. Nothing crazy but still respectable. Pretty sure he’s been fixing his shot this off season as well. At least from the free throw line

Would love for the Lakers to max out Jimmy Butler

I actually think something like what Julius posted (1 make on nearly 3 attempts at 34.5%) is a good expectation for this season

Is your kid at Dominican? It took me two years but I sold mine on Dominican over my Carmel. She absolutely loves it. We have a few years before high school, but I believe I have her sold.

I think Zion could develop into a dominant 3, with a legit 38% 3pt shot.

Griff preference is likely to have it done by around Tuesday. Then we can focus on Zion.
All of this AD trade talk shite... and we forget in less than a week we will have frickin Zion.

I mean the AD trade talks revolve around the future success of Zions career in New Orleans. That’s why it’s so talked about.

Butler opting out was a given.
His option was $19m, he stands to make about $30m+ per season.
As far as the Lakers go, they may have interest but if Philly maxes him, he will take it.
Him being in LA would be interesting on a number of levels, not the least of which being that he doesn’t give a frick who people are and will let them know it if they aren’t playing up to his standards.

Man, I wish someone could have posted about this possibility back in February when all this started. Oh, wait...
"How much of the Pelicans outcome is then pegged to Ainge keeping his word if we wait past the deadline? If Kyrie, not the most stable guy, makes an announcement he's not resigning, can Boston really still deal Tatum + player + multiple picks or does his offer change? Obviously, a handshake deal on what will happen in July is not enforceable by the league."
