Anyone claiming Isbell's new album isn't good is either moronic or trolling, so I was giving you the benefit of the doubt.

if a label approached them and said we'll pay you $xxx but you have to sing these songs, they'd do it.

Well I'll just tell you that you're flat out wrong

this board has a constant hard-on for "indie country" artists. that stuff is just bad. I say this knowing i'll be ripped but I really DGAF.

you either like everything in the OP or Florida Georgia line. which is it? one has no melody (OP)and the other is cookie cutter (FGL)

Songs have to have a melody?

I rest my case. that stuff is way better than what the OP posted. it's got melody and substance.

not bad songs, but I wouldn't say any of it has "substance", pretty formula for the most part. Especially "Note to Self", nothing more formula in country than building a song around a popular catchphrase.

Sounds like a song that Doug Stone would've had on the radio in the mid 90's.

Matt Jenkins-Note to self

Nothing good about this song imo.

quote:

Shawn Camp-Building the fire

The best of the three you posted, but doesn't come close to Jason Isbell or John Moreland imo.

now its about the formula. I swear, on this board, if its not one thing, its another.

look, im not here to be a bitch. im really not. I just don't care for what is in the OP. if anyone does, that's fine. I don't think anyone here is a bad person

its all just good debate. I enjoy it.

I didn't say that was a bad thing. That's just what it sounds like to me.

he's on many many many lists as best record of 2013 from those that cover country/roots/americana/folk music.

i've seen him live and the entire room was silent. he's an amazing songwriter.
