Nashville's Live on the Green free concert series is coming up. I "recognize" the names of a lot of these bands, but honestly don't know too much about them. Who must I see, skip, etc?

Arkells
Michael Franti & Spearhead
St. Paul and the Broken Bones

Aug 17:
Minus the Bear
Real Estate
Local Natives

Aug 24:
The Weeks
Portugal the Man
Spoon

Aug 31:
Jonny P
Iron and Wine
Carl Broemel
Dispatch
Roots of Rebellion
John Butler Trio

Sept 1:
Shel
Whistles and the Bells
Big Head Todd and the Monsters (definitely making this one)
Ron Gallo
Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors
Goodbye June
Sheryl Crow

Sept 2:
Bahamas
Guthrie Brown
The Delta Saints
Cordovas (definitely making this one)
The Record Company
Paper Route
LP
Voodoo Fix

Those are really impressive lineups for free shows.

Much like New Orleans' Wednesday in the Square, Nashville does free music/concert series throughout the year. This one is from August - Labor Day weekend. In my opinion, it is hands down the best one in terms of quality.

Last year was a killer lineup as well:

Holy frick! How do they get those kinds of folks to play for free? The city or some benefactor with deep pockets must be selling out some bucks. Most of those acts could fill up a House of Blues sized club.

Interesting lineup
Def Lone Bellow and St Paul
Never like Sheryl Crow much but saw her live and was very pleasantly surprised
I know Spoon is hugely popular but they've never done it for me
Iron and Wine is a must
