I'm working on an idea that came to me this morning--a song about Hendrix, Sly Stone and Arthur Lee. I'm calling it "The Legendary, Incendiary Psychedelic Three." I think I've played it like 94 times today, working on lyrics and music, it's been rattling around my cranium all day.

How did your song work out?

Here's the one I was working on yesterday (lyrics):

the legendary, incendiary psychedelic three

three wise men from weird times
musicians all by trade
gone but not forgotten
for the magic that they made
jimi hendrix, sly stone and
arthur lee
the legendary, incendiary psychedelic three

now hendrix played in soul bands
joined the army too
then he took a trip on a ship he built
called the psychedelic blues
and the guitar was a compass
in his wizard hands
he took us to strange places like
electric ladyland

sly stone was a stone cold freak
raised on gospel songs
but when he got high on funk and skunk
he took us all along
the family stone was black and white
other colors, too
he stormed the walls of ignorance
his music busted through

arthur lee, acid poet
unto himself a trip
an afro-shaman pied piper
on the sunset strip
the hip and tuned in dug his sound
cast a musical spell
but in the end his fire died—
his records didn’t sell

those days and times are over
and the scene is way long gone
jimi’s dead and arthur too
while sly carries on
but when my window’s open
i hear the paisley sea
the sounds of the legendary, incendiary
psychedelic three

The melody is similar to the Seeds' "Pushin' Too Hard." It's an acoustic guitar/harmonica song that comes in a little over two minutes. Lots of fun to play.

Writing songs is way cool, innit?
