And I do not mean a place that sells vinyl that was pressed yesterday. I am looking for a place that can be a scavenger hunt.
ANy suggestions?

It's so easy to spend hours in there. Make sure you check out the entire store, even upstairs. Workers are really helpful too to get you started.

Yeah right there in the bywater. There's a cool park right on the river directly across the street from it. Anytime I go I make an afternoon of it.

Add to it the following:
Domino Sound, 2557 Bayou Rd, New orleans - some great old vinyl;
Louisiana Music Factory, on Frenchman right off Esplanade, newer vinyl, but some old stuff in the mix.
I would make a day of it between the three. Music Factory and Euclid are only about 2 miles apart. Domino is off Esplanade closer to City Parks/Fairgrounds Race Track.

I like domino as well because they have some unique stuff, but it's only about a 10th of the size of Euclid, and it's cash only.

I have not record shopped in NOLA since about 2004. The place I went, if memory serves, was called the Magic School Bis or something?

Haven't been to Mushroom by Tulane in a while. Is that one no good anymore?

Peaches has a huge store on mag and napolean

Peaches prices were so laughably bad at the old French quarter store that I refuse to check out the new one.

It was ridiculous. I don't think they had anything in that place under $30 and it wasn't like the inventory was anything special. I haven't been to the new location but I would hope they've come down to earth if they think they're gonna make it without all those tourist wallets walking by 24/7.
Euclid is great.

The woman that owned peaches has been above MSRP for a while.
She has been reported to Record Store Day for this a few times by many people as it violates their policy.
She raises the price by 40% on RSD...RSD does this to spark interest in local shops and she returns the favor by gouging the very people that stand in line to support her and not buy online!!

Kafka,
Goldmine has been closed for a couple years now.
Interesting story about Record Ron's on Magazine though...
I would stop in there every 3 months or so and look for the one-offs--MOFI and half speed masters. That was the only thing worth a damn in there. All the other records were junk, and she basically knew nothing of the business. They were not organized, and were filthy. The ceiling was caved in over another section at one point, and she just roped it off!!
The woman was basically running the business that her father left when he died, but had zero interest in it. She had my business card as I asked her to call me when someone would trade in any audiophile grade LPs (but she never did).
About 4 years ago, I got a call from her asking if she could borrow $10k!! (I didn't even know her name!)--the landlord was threatening to boot them from the building and they needed money. No bank would lend them the money.
I called a fellow audio guru, and we decided to make her an offer...we would each put up $5k, but in turn, wanted access to the "forbidden room"--the room upstairs where her father kept all the rare and audiophile LPs. No one was ever allowed up there, but the audio geeks knew about it. We would basically buy $10k worth of rare and collectible records.
She informed me that she didn't want to part with those LPs...the store was closed about 4 months later.
Some people just can't be helped.

That's so funny and tragic at the same time. I wonder what happened to that stuff in the secret room.

there was a story in the paper not too long ago that said the valuable LPs had been collected and placed in safe storage for the wife (i.e. She still has them). I'd stay in touch with her if you think there's some gems in there
