Been a long time but heading to the Texas Club tonight for Flatland Cavalry.
The Varsity seems to be getting back into having regular concerts.

Chelsea’s Live is easily the best venue in town. Mid City Ballroom is great when they have shows, but it feels less frequent than it used to. Beauvior is fantastic for outdoor stuff. Texas Club gets absolutely rocking when there’s a good band there, but I’m not usually interested in the country bands they get. The Varsity seems to finally be booking original shows again and has some excellent metal bands. Red Dragon and Shaw Center are good for singer/songwriters every now and then. River Center theater is okay but rarely has anyone worth seeing, same goes for the centroplex. The Basin is really disappointing. It should be a much better venue than it is. They don’t book bands super often, but the Rev is absolutely lit when they have a decent band back there.

I forgot the Red Dragon Listening Room. A unique experience. They regularly host Americana, folk and country bands with other genres like blues thrown in. Nonprofit venue and VIP means old couches up front, versus chairs in the back.
Saw Dale Watson there, which was a hoot (the audience collectively failed in bringing him some Lone Star). Also Mike and the Moonpies (now known as Silverada) with country punk Vandoliers opening, Slaid Cleaves and others had great shows.
BYOB too.

eta - Dash Rip Rock playing there March 23rd. Should be cool in a garage-like venue like that.
