USA

CCR
Skynyrd
Doors
Eagles
Aerosmith
Tom Petty
GnR
Allman Brother's
Seger
SRV
Hendrix
Springsteen

U.K.

Beatles
Zeppelin
Stones
U2
The Who
Black Sabbath
Pink Floyd
Queen
Cream
Clash
Bowie
Elton John

Obviously, there is a multitude of other great bands in both countries, but who ya got?

I think USA is more my sound personally but U.K. Has the three possibly greatest bands of all time going for them. I guess I'd have to give this one to the Brits because more of their bands are known on a worldwide setting but I think the USA sound is better.

Sadly, UK wins here by a landslide

It’s the UK, easily.

I'd hate to say this, because the US has great bands in the past, but the UK blows the US out of the water.

Certainly the upper tier is flooded with UK bands.

Them having Beatles, The Who, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and the Stones (ETA: and Sabbath) - I'm not going to lie, there are probably hundreds of thousands of baby boomers that list those as their Top 6.

It is a sound thing, though - UK dominates the blues rock sound - the somewhat more country vibe/flavor/influence guys (Stones notwithstanding, because they're both) - Eagles, Americana acts (Seger, Petty, Springsteen, with respective bands), Skynyrd, skew heavily American.

And, "solo" artists, we just crush them - Sinatra (as representative of the crooners who overlapped rock and roll), Elvis, Hendrix (arguable in either category, as are the Americana guys), Ray Charles, Aretha, Billy Joel, and cats like that just crush the UK equivalents, Ozzy, Sir Elton, maybe David Coverdale.

Police and Oasis and Coldplay and Radiohead need to be on U.K. list.

Those are the biggest (and at times best) rock and prog rock bands of the 80s 90s 00's and 10's (U2 included in that ranking of biggest)

U2 are Irish but I support you putting them on the list

Plus you've gotta take into account guys like Bob Dylan (not his biggest fan) and Neil Young.

It is true that U.K. had the best classic rock bands, but I maintain my opinion that the US has been the most inventive and have contributed the most musically.

We gave the world jazz, blues, hip hop, and r&b. We invented punk with MC5, and NY Dolls. Hardcore came from the east coast. Hell, we invented the fricking the electric guitar. We made grunge. We made “alternative” music.

U.K. are the best imitators.

Yes, we also gave them folk. Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel.

Young is Canadian, btw. But still North American.

Absolutely - if I included Francis Albert, then Bob Dylan for sure.

Beatles, Maiden, Sabbath, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and the whole New Wave Of British Heavy Metal tips the scales for the UK for me.

I always have thought of it as indicative of the collective personalities of the two countries. The UK has a more cooperative, all for one collective personality while the US is individualistic.

I think the American list you have posted isn't quite the best. Where is Pearl Jam? Where is Metallica? Where is Rage Against the Machine (who is going into the Rock Hall of Fame this year)? Where is Dave Matthews Band? These bands are better than some of the bands you have listed? In terms of popularity and in culture and style. Say what you want about Metallica, but there isn't another heavy metal band in the history of the genre that has meant more!!! Hell, their most recent album was badass. Those guys are still doing it big. Pearl Jam is at least equal to a group like U2. Peal Jam is also still doing it big.

If you read the post then you saw where I said there's a multitude of other great bands not listed.

Didn't feel like running through that gambit of bands

Also, I cant take your list seriously without Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson, who are both #2 and #3 all time in albums sold. Also, where is Frank Sinatra and Prince? To be honest, your American list really sucks lol

You are blurring the lines between “pop artist” and “band”. The thread seems to encompass classic rock bands to 90’s alternative rock bands.

Had this thread been titled “USA or U.K.? Which Countey Has Contributed The Most To The World Musically?” Then you would have a point.

The subject is bands, not artists.
