So last night my group of 4, all 43-46 year old, well dressed and courteous people try to enter the front door. Upon asking for ID, the doorman tells my 46 year old friend that he may not enter because his license expired 2 days ago.
I understand that they are doing what they are told to do, but sometimes in life you just gotta use common sense!--it's a bar, not the Pentagon.
I believe the reason they are told to check for expiration is to catch the 19-20 year olds that may be using a friend's old license as a fake to gain entry. The person that was denied entry looks about 50 and is half gray!!
We are friends with the band, and upon their arrival, they grabbed the GM who made things right.
Just a reminder--bring an up to date, valid ID or vial of blood next visit to Tips!

Their willcall system is horrendous and often leads to hour long lines. It's pathetic.

or you know, don't have an expired ID. they could lose their liquor license because of it. serving someone with an expired ID is illegal.

ATF does not cite bars for serving 45 yer old people due to expired licenses---legally they can, but they don't. A bar will usually have to have multiple infractions of serving proven underage people before losing its license.
The ATF actually uses common sense.

All I hear are excuses... Pardon a bar for ensuring that they are in compliance.

yep that's absurd
I had my backpack emptied at fest for the first time ever, never had that happen. Was not happy. been going for 20 years and never had one issue
short fat young girl at gentilly gate, stay away

Well the GM let him in, so based on that, he didn't ensure the bar's compliance.

Chesty, I'm just saying some places need to use common sense. No bar in the state of Louisiana is going to lose a liquor license for letting someone more than double the legal age in the door for having a recently expired license.
Not. Gonna. Happen.
Like I stated, I understand the doorman is just doing his job. And the GM, who is paid more and also has the ability to make decisions based on common sense, did just that by letting him in. The GM also knows that the bar is not in jeopardy of losing its license in this instance.
since this is the MB, I was making people aware that Tips is tight on security and IDs--since it is a place that many of the MB regular.

I was at Tips Tuesday night and got through the will call line in about five minutes.

Guy at my office was denied cigarettes at Walgreens a while back bc his license had expired. He is 68 and bald.

Will call took me even less than that, but I walked up to get my tickets about 15 minutes before the show started. When I first walked up the line was pretty long, so I walked down the street, drank a few then walked back and it was pretty much clear.
