The hope with this thread is that people will discover new bands/artists they end up loving. The idea is simple: list a band/artist that you really like and would be interested in hearing similar acts, and hopefully another poster knows something you don't and can point you in the right direction.

I'll start.

A few months ago I listened to Grimes and it was borderline life changing. I freaking love this girl. I've gone back and listened to all her stuff. Artangels is definitely her best work, but her older stuff isn't shabby either. Who should I try next?

The Knife- Silent Shout is the first album that came to mind. Also, check out their track Heartbeats.

Put me in the Artangels > Visions camp, although I still think Oblivion and Genesis are her best two tracks.

Somehow, I had never heard of Built to Spill until like 3 weeks ago. I listed to Perfect From Now on and Keep it Like a Secret and absolutely love both. Still haven't checked out their other albums yet though...typically with a band I'm just getting familiar with I'll listen to their most popular stuff as a starting point.

Anywho...suggestions welcome on similar sound and style.

Built to Spill is possibly my favorite band ever. I think early Modest Mouse is the closest comp I would go with for them, although you are likely familiar with them. Dinosaur Jr. and Pavement are other bands I would look into. Also this guy Hudson Bell sounds fairly similar.

Song wise: Freak Scene, In a Jar, Little Fury Things, The Wagon

Album wise: I'd probably go with You're Living All Over Me

There was a Pavement thread a few weeks ago.

Like Seaward said, Hudson Bell..... When the Sun is the Moon is one of my favorite albums.

I'd throw Hum into the BtoS category....Downward is Heaven and You'd Prefer an Astronaut are great albums.

I love built to spill, one of my favorite bands of all time. I have seen them live 10+ times. They put on an amazing show. Perfect from now on is their best album, there is nothing wrong with love is their next best.

Other options...

Halo bender - beat happening dude with doug martsch from built to spill
Beat Happening
sebadoh - be pick though, go with bake sale IMHO

Grimes is phenomenal, I'd second those already suggested and also add:

The good news: these are great recs
The bad news: I'm already pretty well versed on all those acts. I"m a huge fan of phantogram (who by the way is smoking hot) and Little Dragon. BUT,,..I've never heard of Fever Ray. So, Boom!

Oh, and I have to respectfully submit that Visions is not better than Artangels, and that's no disrespect to Visions. Artangels was my favorite album of 2015 and it cracks my top 5 for the decade.
