So this is what makes pop music so annoying these days.

I disagree with the theory that "it will end when people are tired of hearing it."

It will end when people stop accepting being spoon fed what to like based on what's easiest to produce. As long as these shitty pop albums can be pumped out every 3-5 months by a single "artist", you can expect this terrible music to continue.

I would care more if this was 20 years ago and I relied on pop radio to find music. But it's not. So who cares?

There's plenty of good pop music out there. Just don't expect most radio stations to play it.

I saw that article yesterday.

It dates the sound back to '85, but I could swear there is a song from the '70s (I think) that also uses it. It has a chorus going "Wah-oo, wah-oo, wah-oo" but I can't recall the name, if I ever knew it.

That's a different sound (that also shows up at 1:11 of this classic)

The track I'm thinking of is some "prog"-type stuff, where the singers go "wah-oo, wah-oo, wah-oo" quickly, in a manner similar to this new whoop

Two things.......one, it's a natural sing along for a live show, a place where the "artist" can break things down and interact with the fans. Secondly, they are simply covering up for the terrible music that is being played.

Although, I do kinda like that Katy Perry song.

I saw an interesting twitter discussion in which a minor artist copped to putting the whoops in her songs so she could sell them to commercials and pay her bills. It's what allows her to make music for a living. Which is an interesting point.
