What does anyone think of Taylor Swift? Is she worth looking into as a artist?

I'm not a fan of her music, but I do appreciate that she writes her own songs.

She writes shallow, catchy, poppy bullshite for teenage girls, but it sells. She has flawlessly pulled off the elusive country to pop transition, which typically goes in the opposite direction. I do have to give her props for writing most of her own songs, though. That's pretty uncommon in pop music today.

I am a big fan of her music. Can't really explain why. I don't really listen to pop music at all, but I still put on 1989 from time to time.

She's a solid pop artist.

I have to admit. She's good. It's teen pop. I hate that kind of stuff. But my daughter loves her so I'm familiar with her music. It's catchy as hell.
Listen to Ryan Adams' cover of her album 1989 and you realize they are great songs.

Her songs get stuck in my head and make me want to stick an ice pick through my ears.

I keep waiting for the almost inevitable whorish tailspin that befalls the young female pop star

Ryan Adams is an interesting comparison. Do you have a link to his cover album?

As far as harmless, vapid pop music goes, she's the modern queen.

Not a fan but her artistry is undeniable. Has the it factor, like it or not.

She is very skilled at marketing herself. As for "artistry"... ehh, I wouldn't go that far.

As right brained as they come. Sucks to me too but to deny her being artistic is just head in the sand ignore.

She writes songs using established musical theory and subject matters that are known to be very marketable and extremely prevalent. If using a formulaic approach to make music that takes relatively minimal creativity is "undeniable artistry" then your standards are very low. She isn't re-inventing the wheel or doing anything at all interesting with the art. What she is, is a very intelligent businesswoman who knows how to sell her product. Give the people what they want, I guess. I would give her far more creative credit for how she runs her business than the music she makes.

"22" and "Bad Blood" are badass.

You don't really believe that old line, do you? While it may have been true for a handful of very old songs... come on... she has a team. All major pop recording artists do.

Up to 1989 she did write the majority of all of her songs, Max Martin helped a lot on this album though. I remember John Mayer in the studio asking one of her producers if she really wrote a few of the songs he found particularly impressive, the answer was yes she did all by herself.

"Thanks for being supportive of me trying something different."
Puts out same pop bullshite as everyone else. She's a sell out.
