"The best guitarist you never heard of."

A white boy who played almost exclusively the black man's blues - he was almost the prototype for SRV (who chose a more pop/rock friendly approach).

Telecaster player - and one of your better self-taught guitar players ever.

I saw him live almost 30 times. Mostly in the late 70's early 80's. He would play his Telecaster through a Fender amp with no effects, and he would get the most amazing sounds from that simple set up. The last time I saw him in 1988 he had started using a few effects pedals. He still used all of the "tricks" he had for getting unique tones, but they were magnified by the effects.

I can say without reservation that I have never been as amazed at the sounds produced by a guitar player as I was by Roy Buchanan. And he did that while being as fast and precise a player as you could want.
