It is very hard to argue against the Beatles, right time, right place and the huge influence they had not only on music but culture.

But they are very, very different types of bands. After the early years, the Beatles essentially became a studio band, while the Stones strength (although they had several classic and monumental albums) was always on stage.

While the Beatles crafted pop songs, with hooks and harmonies in the studio. The Stones were establishing the standards for rock and roll for the look, swagger and stage performance that bands still follow today.

The Beatles wanted to hold your hand, the Stones wanted satisfaction.

I wasn't born when the stones were rocking. So the superior quality of the songs the Beatles wrote out them well ahead of the stones for me.

I don't care for either one, but if I was forced to pick, I'd pick The Beatles.

Give me Zeppelin or Floyd over either one of those any day.

The Beatles were the Steely Dan of that era.
