Raps Impact on Music

Jim Hendrix, B.B.King, Gary Clark Jr, just a few of my favorite black artists . Lenny Kravitz, Ray Charles. Alicia Keyes.
Since Rap's emergence doesn't require that type of expertise when it comes to mastering an instrument, does that also mean fewer african-americans are participating in band or learning to play a musical instrument? Is there a long term impact? Should there be a concern or is this just music evolution?

It's happening across racial lines
If you can get people -- specifically, girls -- to notice you with a laptop, why take a year to learn how to play guitar?
If you can make money yelling something, why waste time learning how to sing? That's actually something not everyone can do. Rap is truly democratic, like the Lottery or reality TV.

It ruined much of music by convincing people that having no talent is amazing, that sampling other people's work is the coolest, and that the only things that matter in life is money and women. Oh wait, that was 80's hair metal.

I look at real musicians as artists who spend years learning instruments, perhaps coming close but never quite mastering their craft, and loving music more than the money. It's difficult for me to respect the artists of today who follow a different path, even though I realize that's the preferred path for many in the music industry.

Yeah black people should go back to making Blues, Jazz, Funk, Soul & Reggae instead of all that Rap and Hip Hop.
Besides the Latinos have gotten to be better at Rap anyway.

Rap makes people think they are intellectual geniuses because they can make words rhyme. I blame Dr. Seuss.
