Ibanez SR650 and a GK MB115 II amp/cabinet.

I've been wanting to get a bass for about 20 years now. I'm not looking to eventually get into a band, but just want something to get better on and play around with.

I looked at a Fender Deluxe Edition PJ bass online at Guitar Center and figured that would do for me, but when I got to Guitar Center in Metairie, the fella there handed me the Ibanez, and it was a good bit lighter and just felt better in my hands. This Ibanez has the same split pick ups as the Fender PJ, and so far, feels really nice.

...and this little GK amp/cabinet has some balls, too!!

I love GK for bass amps...nice finish on that Ibanez too. I don't normally like them, but when you pick it up and know, you know.

Enjoy that new axe

Thanks man!

Yeah, I went in really wanting the Fender (Sea Foam Green--a real beauty!). I never even considered an Ibanez, but after about 10 minutes with the Fender, the guy handed me the Ibanez, and within 2 minutes, I said "man, this just feels nice". It is also considerably lighter than the Fender (i know--I sound like an old man here).

Same with the amp...I was looking at the Fender Bass amp with (2) 10" drivers and then switched over to the GK, and man, this thing put out some powerful sound. I realize that a pair of 10" will have tighter mid-bass than one 15" driver, but the 15" should provide me with a little more powerful lower end.

I am basically starting from scratch, as it has been 25+ years since I had a bass in my hands. Although I know I can learn a great deal using YouTube, I will soon be searching for a music teacher in the GNO area. Maybe a couple times a week for 6 months or so to get me started. I want to learn to read and understand music, not just "play songs".

The GK's are awesome! Our bassist played with one for the longest time and they thump...something you can obviously appreciate via your turntable setups.

It'll be a labor of love picking bass back up again. I played gigs on guitar 2-3 times a week for 12 years or so and never learned to read music but I think going the legit route will leave you with more in the end.

Now that we're out of a condo uptown and into a house, I need to move my '66 Bassman stack (head & 2-2x12's) over here soon.

Enjoy the journey!
