Not so much about the look. I anchor my little finger on it.
With the shape of a Les Paul top, it helps feel more like a flat top, and that seems like a more natural playing position to me.

Fret Shack, are you familiar with a short-scaled guitar called the Hondo II? I paid $200 for one from a pawn shop when I was in high school and still wish I had the instrument.

Yes, Hondos were affordable MIJ copies of the popular American guitars of the day in the early to mid 80s, at least that's when I remember seeing them in some stores and magazine ads. Some are just a few upgrades and TLC strokes away from being nice value-minded substitutes.
