98% of the live performances I saw were better than anything you could buy recorded.

Sometimes a band was 1,000,000 times better live.
Pacific Gas and Electric at the Miami Pop Festival.
Amazing drum solo.

It's my great pleasure to give you a downvote. The Nighthawks, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, The Radiators, The Dirty Dozen, Anders...on a bad night these guys blow away Trey and pals. Ever so often even the Grateful Dead had a night to remeber. Phis

Stat callout: I gurantee I have seen more artists than you have. Name one.

You're seriously taxing my brain but here goes:

Last great Skynyrd lineup a year before the plane crash (plus other lineups in the last 20 yrs)
Original Hatchet lineup (multiple times & many other lineups)(I'm good friends with the current band)
AC/DC on their Back in Black tour & For Those About to Rock Tour
Bob Seger Against The Wind tour
Allman Bros (multiple times before their 1981 break-up and after)
James Cotton (blues legend)
REO on the High Infidelity Tour (and after)
Rush
Triumph
Van Halen (with DLR & Sammy)
The Sammy Hagar/DLR Tour
CDB multiple times
Iron Maiden (only once - kicking myself for not seeing them more)
38 Special (multiple times)
Outlaws
Cheap Trick
Atlanta Rhythm Section
BOA
BOC
Journey
Foreigner
Styx
Foghat
Guns N Roses
Soundgarden
Blackfoot
Police
Joan Jett
Def Leppard
ZZ Top
Tom Petty
Eagles
Judas Priest
Uriah Heep
Kansas
Pearl Jam
Extreme

I know I'm leaving some bands out & as you can see I prefer southern rock plus I'm old

There are definitely some good artists on that list but almost all of those shows are just the band replicating their albums with the same setlist night after night. Phish's improv and legendary tourong from 1993-2000 puts them at the top.

Ill admit I have never seen the Nighthawks or Thunderbirds

I wasn't born yet for the prime Radiators shows in the early 80s, but have seen them several times over the last decade. Great party type atmosphere and real fun, but short on musical depth. Lighthearted stuff so to speak.

Dirty Dozen is alright but not even the best brass band in NOLA.

I'm a huge Anders fan (seeing him again tonight), seen him 25+ times over the past few years. My favorite current NO act but still doesn't hold a candle to the variation of a Phish show.

Not sure if serious.

Everyone is going to have an opinion on this, but having seen Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and The Who in their 70's prime, I beg to differ...

Another great live band, saw them on 3 straight tours in N.O. back in the early 70's. I remember there was talk in record magazines about the loudest band in existence, and I think the Heep beat out Deep Purple with the highest decibel recorded level at live shows.

In terms of variation of jamming and peaking, Phish destroys the Dead. Not even close. And this is coming from an actual Deadhead.

And how many times have you seen them live?

this is hard to argue with, but I would have no qualms saying that Phish is the best live act you can go see RIGHT NOW.
