Without going into too much detail, I rounded the corner at the local grocery store this afternoon, only to find myself face to face with Phil Collen of Def Leppard. We couldn't help but make eye contact and he could tell that I recognized him. I apologized for "bothering" him and asked what in the world he was doing in Aiken, South Carolina. He explained that he has a daughter who lives in the area and he was in town visiting her.

SUPER, SUPER NICE GUY. I shook his hand and headed for the bread isle thinking about how many times I watched the Photograph video and wanted to be a rock star when I was a teen. LOL

That's a legit CSB. Yeah, who in the hell would ever expect to run into him in Aiken, SC??? It's always good too when they turn out to be super nice.

Now... I never could quite warm up to him in the band because I was a big Pete Willis fan. Then they pretty much lost me after Pyromania.

But good for him and all the success he's enjoyed.

Here's another one - remember this novelty song?

Sam Kinison's Wild Thing

Phil played guitar. Why? He was the only person sober enough to do so.

I was having lunch in the old Spataro's restaurant inside the Remington hotel in Shreveport back in the 90s, and he was at the next table. DL had played in town the night before, and bands often stayed there.

I didn't recognize him on sight, but British accents and a family having breakfast cereal in an Italian restaurant at noon got my attention. Then figured it out. Did not bug him.

After seeing the legendary party animals in that video, I can see why that happened.

FOLLOW UP TO THIS STORY...... I told a friend at work this morning about seeing Collen yesterday....this guy is a really good dude but VERY country. Like Florida/Georgia Line country, he had no idea who Phil Collen was. About an hour later he comes by my office and says.......Hey, I figured out who that Phil guy is, his daughter and my son go to school together (1st grade). He brought his guitar a few weeks back for "Daddy's Day" and played a bunch of songs he claimed he wrote.

Uhh, I'm not sure how you arrived at that..... I was referring to the fact that he's on up in years and has a daughter in the first grade. Don't do crack.
