Man, I am pumped up for this.

For those of you who weren't there they killed it at Jazzfest as well.

I was just reading about this. I'm cautiously optimistic about the new album. I like Josh, and he and JF are pretty similar, but the last record was pretty meh. I love every record JF was on, besides Mother's Milk. A lot of people are saying that Josh has integrated pretty well now and the new record will be his BSSM...one can only hope. If it's better than I'm With You, I think I'll be pretty happy with it.

Their playing may be similar, but he will never be able to bring JF's writing to the mix...He is out of this world creative and a lot of people overlook how much he contributed to their elite records..

I think that Josh has really come into his own.

Comparing their more recent shows to the ones at the beginning of the I'm With You tour he seems a lot more comfortable and he's been playing really well lately.

If you haven't given it a listen yet, I highly recommend I'm Beside You, the B-Side collection to I'm With You. I personally like it better than the actual album and it showcases Josh's skills pretty well.

As far as replacing Frusciante, I think that Josh is the only one that can. He and Frusciante have been close friends since '99 and they've been writing music together since '02. Josh was pretty much his understudy and he's learned a lot from John. It's rumored that John even suggested that Josh be his replacement in the band.

It's hard for them to roll without JF.

Their last album was my least favorite.

Optimistic though because it's still the Peppers.

Truth, but like Hammer said, he was JF's understudy and is probably the closest thing we will get to JF as a guitarist / vocalist in the band.

Genius can't be taught or absorbed. I almost came into the thread with my usual, "No John, no care."

But, it really isn't a knee jerk reaction. I like RHCP with John. I like some of John's solo work. I don't like RHCP without John (certainly since Hillel).

It is what it is.

I haven't liked anything they've done in years. I would love it if they surprised me by making something that does me right again.

Same. Over the years, I've really outgrown RHCP. I'll still give it a shot though.

Another new single has been released. The Getaway

I like the other single better, but maybe this one will grow on me.

RHCP one of the all time great rock bands. Next to Led Zeppelin and GNR. Legendary.

Well yeah but I mean I haven't liked anything the Stones have done in years either, doesn't mean they aren't a great band. They're just old now.
