Reviews have been great. This album is supposed to be more accessible to non DT fans. Might actually check it out.

I have heard the same thing. I still don't really like it. It's just a giant rock opera which was my problem with the recent BTBAM album.

I really enjoyed the last two albums from BTBAM. Haven't picked up the new Dream Theater yet but I will in the next day or so.

I saw them on the black clouds and silver linings tour in Houston. They put on a hell of show. Pettrucii is one of my personal favorite guitarists.

I'll definitely give the new album a listen.

I loved Parallex II but Coma Ecliptic was OK. There were a couple of gems on it though.

I had a long drive today and was able to listen to both disks. Act 1 (disk 1) was not very impressive. Almost could't believe I was listening to Dream Theater. Act 2 (disk 2) started to pick up a little but still left something to be desired. This album won't be in my regular rotation.

At this point I think it's obvious that Portnoy was correct when he requested the band take a break for a year or so. The musical content since he left has been subpar. I have no idea what Mangini is doing. Does he have any creative responsibility or is he just playing what JP tells him to play? For being so talented he plays the most boring arse drum parts. And what is with that awful snare on this album. The snare sounds SO bad!

Yeah, it was very mediocre. And I agree, after Portnoy left, the band sucked. I still love Jordan, John, James, and John M as individual artists but DT really has gone to crap imo. That said, there are a ton of new reviews saying the album got them into Dream Theater. This is apparently the Dream Theater album for people who weren't fans of them before.
Also, if you haven't, listen to James' solo project. Fricken amazing.

I have James' Elements of Persuasion but not his other two albums. He is also really good on Ayreon's The Human Equation.
