I'm not some long time metal head, but Baroness is my absolute favorite "metal" band (though they've started to veer away from pure metal over the last album or two). The Blue Record was the moment when I went from trying to get into metal to genuinely liking the genre (after a protracted attempt to expose myself to the genre in order to understand why so many people whose musical tastes I respect like it).

Anyway, I'm stoked that they're putting out the Purple Album in the near future (which means more sweet Baizley album artwork!). They just released an awesome vid for the first single off the album "Chlorine and Wine." It's pretty awesome.

They just announced a small tour that I'm pumped about. Playing very small venues. Here in ATL at The Earl (which can only hold a couple hundred people) so it'll be rowdy but really fun. I too love this band and am excited to hear their new album. You say you're fairly new to this genre, what other bands do you like? I'll make a few recommendations if you're interested:

Torche - start w/ Harmonicraft (little easier / less heavy) but their new album is awesome)
Red Fang (touring now)
Big Business
Mastodon - no brainer
The Sword - although newest album is different - still not sure how I feel about it yet but their older albums are great and they slay live
Clutch - another no brainer been around forever - awesome energy
COC - albums w/ Pepper are awesome and they're touring soon as well

Had this on heavy rotation last month. I had never gotten into them before that now I am a big fan

The Sword, Red Fang, and Mastodon are all really good bands with great albums out

Clutch depending on the poster/person are god like, or at the very least as well respected a band as they come

I personally like Big Business, not many people have heard of them

Thanks for the suggestions! I've listened to most of those. Some other metal bands I like that are kind of similar:

Kvelertak
Kylesa
Windhand
Pallbearer (doom)
YOB (doom)
Auric
Terminus
Helms Alee
Isis
Giant Squid
Electric Wizard
Black Tusk
