I went with "contenders" to keep the arguing down. My hope with this thread is to find a few albums out of my regular rotation to listen to. Greatest hits are unfair, but feel free to give them an honorable mention. Hopefully you guys will deliver and give me some shite to play on the 4th. I will go first. The theme here is exploring music, not arguing. There are no right or wrong answers.

1. Nirvana unplugged- almost every song is a masterpiece.

2. Gun's N Roses appetite for destruction- probably biased here, but I wore this out when I was younger.

P.S.- I left everything Beatles off because I love it all and could never decide between albums.

Your turn, go.

Nirvana Unplugged is fantastic.

I am always going to say, for me, The Beach Boys Pet Sounds.

Brian Wilson is a musical genius. There are some great videos on Youtube that are excerpts of the original studio sessions and they break down why and what Brian was doing when he made each song.

To me, it is some of the most beautiful music ever created. Music comparable to symphonies. Perfect harmonies on top of it.

I don't really think a true objective "greatest" album of all-time exists. Music is way too subjective. But some of my favorites are:

Pixies- Doolittle
Bob Dylan- Bringing It All Back Home
Built to Spill- Perfect From Now On
Modest Mouse- The Moon and Antarctica
The National- Boxer
The Clash- London Calling
The Dismemberment Plan- Emergency and I
Titus Andronicus- The Monitor
Neutral Milk Hotel- In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
The Beatles- pretty much any album from Rubber Soul on

Definitely not, but that is kind of the point. I already have a few on my list from this thread so far. Let's keep it going.

I have always felt like lyrically, this was his best.

I think I would agree with that. I wouldn't want to have to agrue against Highway 61 Revisited, Blood on the Tracks, or Blonde on Blonde though.

Pet Sounds for me also. I remember back in 96-97 I got the original Pet Sounds Sessions Box Set and just flipped. The vocals only versions are amazing. No band in history could match the BB's harmonies.

Purple Rain is an iconic album, but I actually think Parade, Sign O'the Times and Lovesexy are better Prince albums.

Sign O The Times, to me, epitomized what Prince represented as a musical force, his White Album, his Exile on Main Street and to think, it could've been even longer
