Down
Down--Stone the Crow
Awesome sound, Phil Anselmo is the vocalist (so that's cool). A few folks know of them, but they are extremely under-appreciated. They're not hated I don't think, just basically unknown. As far as not getting enough respect, this is the epitome.
Then there's I Wrestled a Bear Once.
Warning: it's kinda heavy
From Shreveport I think. They were music majors in college together or something like that, idr.
Yea, so they're probably not everyone's cup of tea, and they kind of just have their moments for me. But they've had some success in their own field. They've got some talent (those vocals aren't easy), and of course they're no mainstream. It was worth mentioning, I think. Also, they're pretty goofy/lighthearted judging from the videos, so that's kind of cool.
But definitely Down.

Down and Kirk/Crowbar get plenty respect.
Those deserving more:
Dash Rip Rock and
Exhorder (your welcome, Phil.)

Maybe it's a generational thing on Down. They did start in the early '90s, and hardly anyone I know has heard of them, let alone know them well (born in '91).
I'll check out those others.

Shreveport's Dylan LeBlanc. Thankfully, a talent like him his is starting to hit fame though.

To me, he sounds just like Ryan Adams, which is a good thing. Good stuff for sure.

Had the opportunity to sit in on a session with Dylan and a few other guys when they formed the band Abraham in Shreveport about 7 years ago. I think he was only 18. He is incredibly talented and a really great song writer. The other guys with him at the time were also great. Michael Donner as one of them.
