What are the main venues for seeing original bands in Lafayette? I'm heading that way to chill with family and wanted to know some good bars to see live non-cover bands. Looking for rock, not techno, Cajun, country, zydeco, or hip/hop.

Wouldn't have what he is looking for. And I'd basically rather get Aids than go there myself. Nothing but fights and loads of trash; music played is country with a few random rap songs thrown in. It's just a strange vibe there.
Not a venue, but Green Room is a great bar to check out; always good music, nice beer on tap. Hipster-ish, but plenty of cool people there, pool tables and shuffle boards. Also where all the musicians around here hang out.
Tap Room has bands some times, also a solid bar.
Corner Bar is great. Always tons of beautiful women. Not a venue, but worth checking out as well.
And if you're getting into food, the list would be long as frick. This topic might be best for the OT.

Grouse Room on Sat nights (I DJ there on most Friday Nights, so don't come on Fridays for a band)
Warehouse 535, new venue in Freetown (across from Downtown)
Blue Moon (mostly cajun/zydeco, but occasional rock/blues)

I now you said non-cover. But, if you're ever bored and Seasoned Soul is playing stop by and check them out. They're worth a listen.

kingbob, just use the times of Acadiana music guide it's about as comprehensive as you'll get for Lafayette
