John Frusciante's guitar work played a major role in what became the Red Hot Chili Peppers that most people are familiar with. That being said, he also has a nice catalog of solo albums. I think some of these albums can stand up next to some of his best work in RHCP.

Just a quick bio on his solo work. He wrote and recorded a couple albums between 1991 and 1997. Those being Niandre Lades and Smiles From the Streets You Hold. These albums are pretty raw and emotional and were recorded in a dark time in his life.

In 2004 he recorded and released 6 albums in 6 months...all of which are solid efforts. Since then he recorded two albums with the band Ataxia and another solo album, The Empyrean. Ataxia includes Josh Klinghoffer, who replaced Frusciante in RHCP.

If you are looking to get into some of his stuff, I suggest starting with his DC EP, The Will To Death or Inside of Emptiness. Other great albums include Shadows Collide With People, Curtains, and The Empyrean, all of which can be found on Spotify (except Shadows). Niandre is probably my favorite album but it is hard to get into and not as melodic as his other stuff.

I read an article somewhere that he has recorded a ton of new material but is not sure if/when he will release it. Hopefully, now that he has all this time, we will get more solo albums from him and hopefully a tour.

Nice to see him conquer his demons, and back in RHCP.

I love his solo work and have listened to most of it. I need to download some Ataxia though. Thx for reminding me.

I don't keep up with them much anymore, but I read about the rock n roll HOF inductions, and how Flea thanked his former bandmate Frusciante

I really like his solo stuff and own most of it. I just discovered the Brown Bunny soundtrack songs and was listening to them yesterday. I'm curious as to when he plans to release his next album bc I also heard he has been recording alot recently

He's not back in RHCP. Not sure if he was referring to when he rejoined in '98.

When did he leave?

Also, he's did this with Flea and Omar from The Mars Volta back in '04. Crazy, NON RHCP stuff that's just incredible to listen to.

He left RHCP in 1992 after BSSM and then again a couple years ago, though it wasn't officially announced until last year.

I forgot all about that show they did together. Man this stuff is great! I'd love to see a John, Flea, Omar Collaboration.

I prefer his solo work hands down to RHCP, but I can't stand anything about Anthony Kiedis.

The Empyrean is a masterpiece.

I recommend starting out with John Frusciante

That entire album is fantastic. Murderers just has that catchy groove to it. That one and Ramparts get stuck in my head all the time.

I love his solo stuff.

Empyrean is great to just put on, turn the lights off, and chill to.

Record water, smile from the streets, and shadows collide with people are good.

Favorite solo track - Second Walk

Goals is one of my favorite of his songs. The lyrics just hit me hard for some reason.
