Is there a more "American" song than American Pie?

It is everything Americana

I really can't think of a better one. Who can't relate to the lyrics? It hits all the nostalgia notes without being too overbearing. On top of that, the whole song is really great.

Can't get on with that.

American Pie is just to good. It's relatable as can be and a good tune to boot.

People under 60?

In all seriousness, it's a great song that captures a single moment in time. And it was done as a retrospective covering that transition from the "innocence" of America in the post-War era, but prior to the JFK assassination and Vietnam.

Kind of sincerely/sweetly it tries to capture that kind of vibe in the same way that Springsteen consciously tries to with Born in the USA and My Hometown, although Don McClean does it much less obnoxiously.

For my money, Simon and Garfunkel's America is a better song than American Pie. And both Ray Charles' "America the Beautiful" and old commie Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land" are more "American" than American Pie.

But, American Pie is the best song about that period of time between the birth of Rock and Roll and the end of the 1960s.
