I've been involved in another thread on another board about this and the general consensus seems to be that he is somewhat of a hack in the opera circles.
I like his voice, but apparently, it's not a classic opera voice.

How is this even a fricking question? Good singer and good opera singer are two different things, I might add.

Saw him a couple of weeks ago at Toyota Center. I enjoyed his first set of classical/opera songs more than his contemporary songs. I don't know if he's a hack or not but I came away rather impressed with the pure power of that voice.
