Possibly the best hard rock band...even after 30 years.
I'm on a Maiden bender this week--got the volume turned up to 11 on the big rig!
So it shall be written--so it shall be done!...Up the Irons!

You sir, are a very smart man. One of the greatest bands of all time. Maiden Forever.
I went to Halloween this year dressed in the Eddie outfit & mask from the Piece of Mind album cover.

Well by today's "metal"--stuff I hear on Liquid Metal Sirius, it is not near that heavy stuff...so I put it as hard rock.
Yeah, I understand it was early "metal" in the '80's.
Had I said metal, I would have been corrected by the hard core thrash/black/death mental crowd.
Either way I lose...so let's not focus on the subtleties of the precise "name" of the genre, and instead focus on the fact that Maiden was bad arse...

Best band ever!!! Black Sabbath might have invented heavy metal but Iron Maiden perfected it.
Up the frickin Irons!! Every newer metal band I listen to is based off my influences that Maiden instilled in me as a teenager.

And their newer proggy stuff is fricking killer too. BNW to BOS have all been fantastic.

Maiden transcends metal. They are but the Kings of it and shall never be topped.

Have always been my favorite band. Talented as hell. Saw them in concert about 20 times and several times in Rio and Mexico.
Up the Irons!!

Love me some Eddie
As the sun breaks, above the ground,
An old man stands on the hill,
As the ground warms, to the first rays of light
A birdsong shatters the still.
His eyes are ablaze,
See the madman in his gaze.
Fly, on your way, like an eagle,
Fly as high as the sun,
On your way, like an eagle,
Fly and touch the sun.
As the sun breaks, above the ground,
An old man stands on the hill,
As the ground warms, to the first rays of light
A birdsong shatters the still.

One of the greatest bands ever. While many groups attract aging deciples, Maiden still attracts fans of every age.

And every member is astonishingly tight on their instrument...baddest bass player in the business too!!

Iron Maiden never gets old, and never goes out of style. Aces High!!!

Best heavy metal band ever and best heavy metal album (#OTB) ever, IMO.
That's some badass senior citizens.

I've been crowning a different Maiden album their best for 30 years.
That's saying something, to have so many solid releases that each have a valid argument.

I'm listening to "Live after Death" right now and have "A Matter of Life and Death" on deck.
I have come to REALLY like this 2006 release.

Iron Maiden is a band of which I do not have much exposure. What are some albums I should start with?
Posted on 12/27/16 at 8:22 pm to Funky Tide 8
You will get many answers, and all will be correct.
I say...
"Number of the Beast"...1982
"Powerslave"...1984
"Seventh Son of a Seventh Son"...1988
"Piece of Mind"...1983
...to start with.
Then take a foray into some of their more current stuff..."A Matter of Life and Death" is 2006.
Can't go wrong with any.
Pay attention to the instruments...Steve Harris is a killer bass player--you will notice immediately. Dave Murray is a really talented rhythm guitarist and blends seamlessly with Adrian Smith on lead guitar--who is precise. Nicko McBrain is just a phenomenal metal drummer--not thrash, just hard and tight. And finally, Bruce Dickinson has a distinct vocal which can sustain long and high notes with a touch of "wicked"!!
They are that good--do yourself a favor and get into it.
