I had heard they were good and was looking forward to seeing them at Memphis in May but had never actually listened before. Awesome. Right up my alley.

Definitely had a modern Stax record vibe

At some points he's a little to "screamy"

agree...I've seen them live a couple of times and enjoyed the hell out of the shows. But he could use a little coaching on knowing "when to say when".

I like the passion.. a little scream never hurt anyone

it's not like he's in a hardcore band

I don't think so. And I have seen Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin and James Brown all live. There is something to be said for passion in your performance.

100x better live than on record.

Whether it's 50 or 500, they play like they're in front of 10k people every time.

I like it.

As for the singer, grow his hair and beard out, strap a Les Paul on his and throw 150 watts of a marshall amp behind him = Warren Haynes.

Me likey a lot! Always been a huge Motown, Atlantic R&S, Philly Soul, and Memphis Stax fan.

Then again, I possibly listen to more Q106.5 than any other white man in BR?
